Job Description
Position Synopsis: Successful candidate will be relied upon to perform a variety of engineering and design activities involving commercial nuclear power plant upgrades and/or new commercial nuclear power plant projects under the supervision of senior engineering staff.
Responsibilities
This position will offer the ability to directly apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, piping stress analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design. Successful candidate will work on a wide range of commercial nuclear power plant modifications and upgrades to support client requests and requirements including creating and reviewing calculations, document designs/modifications and specifications. Individual will use their technical knowledge of civil/structural discipline and ability to work on project teams with other engineers and other disciplines to assist in evaluating conditions and developing design changes which will improve plant performance, safety, and reliability. Successful candidate should have a working knowledge of and experience in project scheduling techniques to manage and assist in project schedule creation and updates.
Qualifications
Education Required (minimum): BS in civil (structural) engineering from an accredited engineering program.
Experience Required (minimum): 6 years (minimum) of experience required with at least 3 of those years being commercial nuclear power industry experience. Knowledge of the design and/or operation of PWR and/or BWR plants, including primary and secondary systems is required. Experience with performing calculations, feasibility studies, engineering evaluations, system modifications and/or upgrades to nuclear power plant systems to improve safety and reliability is required. Candidates shall have experience with the design and analysis of steel structures using ASD and LRFD methodology, and reinforced concrete evaluation using LRFD. Experience with industry codes including ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, and AWS is required.
Other Required Qualifications (minimum): All applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, PowerPoint is required. Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently. Successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes. Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access is required. Overtime work is required at times. Travel is required to client sites with periods of field/office work. Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas is required.
