Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer (Tier 2) to support a company focused on delivering secure, mission‑critical cybersecurity operations, engineering, and compliance solutions for the federal government. This position is on‑site in Washington, D.C. The Network Engineer (Tier 2) will design, implement, and maintain secure, high‑performance network infrastructures supporting the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). This role directly supports national security missions involving nuclear deterrence, nonproliferation, and nuclear security operations.

- Install, configure, maintain, and optimize LAN and WAN infrastructure including routers, switches, VPN appliances, firewalls, load balancers, and security devices
- Monitor and analyze network performance using network management tools, troubleshooting outages and optimizing performance based on industry best practices
- Manage and support data center network infrastructure, collaborating with storage, virtualization, and engineering teams on infrastructure upgrades and expansion
- Implement and enforce security protocols, apply timely security patches, and support backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Act as a primary technical point of contact, providing design recommendations, documentation, reporting, and support during network engineering projects
- 5 years of experience supporting enterprise or government network environments
- Hands‑on experience with Cisco routers and switches (IOS/NX‑OS), Palo Alto Next‑Generation Firewalls, VPNs, and network security devices; experience with General Dynamics TACLANE and/or GEMOne preferred
- Strong knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, routing and switching, encryption and communication protocols (BGP, VLAN, IPsec, TLS/SSL, 802.1x, DNS, NTP, AES, etc.), and advanced troubleshooting
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Active DOE Q clearance OR Top Secret clearance
- Salary Range: $150,000 depending on experience
