Piper Companies is actively seeking a Medical Coder II (inpatient and specialty services specific) of all levels to work at a revenue cycle management organization. This is a REMOTE Monday through Friday position and requires SPECIALITY experience with Inpatient Facility Coding
Responsibilities for the Medical Coder:
- Evaluate medical records to ensure proper coding of procedures, diagnoses, and billing
- Review and identify trends in documentation issues, coding practices, and coding techniques to provide process improvements and make recommendations to new standard operating procedures
- Educate medical providers, junior staff, and other departments on proper coding techniques, resource allocation, and medical necessity of services
- Coordinate with medical professionals to ensure quality of care and cost-effective care for the patients
- Experience with specialized services in areas such as interventional radiology, cardiothoracic surgery, Inpatient/DRG coding, OB/GYN etc.
- Review medical charts, analyze data, oversee claims, develop educational materials and audit results as a consultative expert
Technical Requirements for the Medical Coder:
- 5 years of experience in medical coding in clinic and/or hospital-facility coding
- Experience with Inpatient Specialty Services (interventional radiology, cardiothoracic surgery, Inpatient/DRG coding, OB/GYN, etc.)
- Professional medical coding certification (CPC, COC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA) – required
- Excellent written, verbal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must have experience with EMR systems, word processing applications and data management systems - Cerner, EPIC, Meditech, etc.
- Understanding of ICD-10, CPT (including E/M leveling), HCPCS, modifiers, medical terminology, and anatomy & physiology
- Hands on experience with evaluating medical records, medical coding, and making recommendations
Compensation & Benefits for Medical Coder:
- Contract to Hire Opportunity
- Able to work CST Hours; Flexible Hours
- Compensation: $30-35/hr based on previous salary history and experience
