Truck & Trailer Mechanic – Gary, IN

Z-Force Transportation is looking for an experienced Truck & Trailer Mechanic to join our maintenance team in Gary, Indiana.

This is an all-around fleet maintenance position focused on completing daily repairs and addressing issues identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) for both our Class 8 tractors and trailers.

This position is not focused on major engine overhauls or internal engine work. We are looking for a well-rounded technician who can diagnose and complete the day-to-day repairs needed to keep our fleet safe and operational.

Schedule

• Start Time: 12:00 PM (Noon)
• Saturday - Thursday
• 10-hour shifts
• Full-time position
• Consistent, year-round fleet maintenance work

Responsibilities

• Review and complete daily truck and trailer DVIR repairs
• Diagnose and repair air brake and air system issues
• Perform brake repairs and adjustments
• Diagnose and repair truck and trailer suspension components
• Repair lighting and electrical issues
• Repair and replace air lines, valves, fittings, and related components
• Perform tire and wheel-related repairs
• Inspect and repair wheel-end components
• Complete preventative maintenance and routine inspections
• Perform repairs on both Class 8 tractors and heavy-duty trailers
• Diagnose and repair trailer components, including landing gear, doors, hardware, and other components
• Identify additional safety or maintenance concerns during inspections
• Complete repair tickets and accurately document work performed
• Perform other truck and trailer maintenance duties as needed
• Work closely with drivers, operations, and our existing maintenance team to keep equipment operational

Qualifications

• Previous experience working on Class 8 trucks and/or heavy-duty trailers
• Strong general knowledge of air brakes, suspension, electrical/lighting, tires, wheel ends, and air systems
• Experience completing DVIR and DOT-related repairs
• Ability to diagnose and complete repairs independently
• Ability to work on both tractors and trailers
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must have own basic hand tools
• Welding experience is a plus
• Strong attendance and dependability

Type of Mechanic We're Looking For

We're looking for a well-rounded, medium-duty fleet technician who is comfortable handling a variety of daily truck and trailer repairs.

The primary goal of this position is to take issues reported by drivers or identified during inspections, diagnose the problem, complete the repair, and safely return the equipment to service.

Major engine rebuilds and heavy internal engine work are not the primary responsibility of this position.
