Job Summary

Z and E Installation is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Access Control Technician with a minimum of 10 years of commercial low-voltage and electronic security experience. The ideal candidate has extensive experience leading commercial security installations in new construction, retrofit renovations, system replacements, and facilities requiring complete infrastructure installation from the ground up.

This position requires the ability to independently manage projects from mobilization through final commissioning, including structured cabling, network infrastructure, access control, video surveillance, and commercial door hardware installations. The Lead Technician is responsible for delivering high-quality installations while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with company and manufacturer standards. Candidates with less than 10 years of proven experience will not be considered for this position.

Project Experience Requirements

Candidates must have demonstrated experience leading commercial projects including:

  • Commercial new construction projects from rough-in through final commissioning.
  • Retrofit security system upgrades.
  • Complete replacement of existing access control and video surveillance systems.
  • Installation of complete low-voltage infrastructure in facilities with little or no existing cabling or network infrastructure.
  • Greenfield installations requiring structured cabling, equipment racks, network infrastructure, access control, and video surveillance systems to be installed from the ground up.
  • Occupied commercial facilities requiring phased installation while minimizing disruption to customer operations.
  • Coordination with general contractors, electricians, fire alarm contractors, IT personnel, and other construction trades to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.

Project Responsibilities

The Lead Access Control Technician is expected to:

  • Manage projects from mobilization through final commissioning and customer turnover.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, door schedules, and security plans prior to beginning work.
  • Plan rough-in requirements and coordinate installation sequencing with other trades.
  • Install complete low-voltage infrastructure, including cable pathways, structured cabling, equipment racks, network devices, and field equipment.
  • Ensure all rough-in work is completed before finish installation begins.
  • Perform system programming, testing, commissioning, and quality assurance.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and field wiring issues independently.
  • Complete final testing, labeling, documentation, and customer training before project closeout.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, material tracking, and as-built documentation.
  • Identify field conflicts early and communicate solutions to project management.
  • Deliver projects safely, on schedule, within labor budgets, and to the quality standards of Z and E Installation.
