TITLE: Housing Support Advocate
STATUS: Full-time, Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Crisis Intervention Services and Project HEAL
SALARY GRADE: 4
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, provides assessments, advocacy and case management services to participants of Project HEAL, with a primary focus on individuals enrolled in the Transitional Housing program. This role is dedicated to empowering survivors to live free of domestic violence and achieve independence, economic self-sufficiency and safe housing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts intake and assessment processes with program applicants, including eligibility verification and rent reasonableness evaluations.
- Provides ongoing advocacy and case management services based on individualized service plans developed in collaboration with participants.
- Delivers services in various settings, including participants’ homes, the YWCA, and community locations.
- Provides transportation for participants as needed, using personal or agency vehicles, in accordance with program guidelines and safety protocols.
- Offers crisis intervention support as needed to Project HEAL participants.
- Coordinates access to supportive services, including vocational planning, education, training, and employment resources.
- Facilitates housing applications to programs such as MSHDA, Section 8, and Permanent Supportive Housing.
- Conducts housing inspections and ensures compliance with program standards.
- Builds and maintains relationships with landlords and property managers; serves as liaison to resolve tenancy issues.
- Maintains collaborative relationships with community partners, including law enforcement, courts, and human service agencies.
- Maintains accurate and confidential case documentation and prepares required reports in accordance with funding and monitoring guidelines.
- May assist with delivery of food and household items to participants.
- Participates in team meetings, supervision, and agency-wide staff meetings.
- Promotes teamwork and shares knowledge and resources with colleagues.
- Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field, plus three years of relevant experience in social services or shelter work. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including presentation and active listening.
- Demonstrated ability in crisis intervention, problem-solving, and navigating group and family dynamics.
- Familiarity with housing resources and community-based human services.
- Cultural competency and ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Capacity to manage multiple crisis situations while maintaining composure and making sound decisions.
- Proficiency in data entry and use of computer systems and office equipment.
- Ability to work independently with flexibility, integrity, and professionalism.
- Visual acuity sufficient for driving, data analysis, computer use, and general observation.
- Access to reliable personal transportation for business use, with mileage reimbursement per policy.
- Eligible to be a qualified driver for the YWCA.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- May require irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet participant needs.
- Work is conducted in office, home, and community settings, with frequent direct contact with participants. The role includes transporting participants to appointments, services, or housing-related activities, which may occur in unpredictable environments based on participant needs and safety considerations.
- Occasional exposure to individuals experiencing high stress or agitation.
- Physical demands include medium work: lifting or moving up to 30 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently.
