Position Summary

The FJC Lead Case Manager will play a key role in advancing YWCA Utah’s mission and movement by providing leadership and support to the Family Justice Center (FJC) case management team. This position is responsible for ensuring that survivors of domestic and sexual violence receive trauma-informed care, advocacy, and high-quality case management services. The FJC Lead Case Manager will work collaboratively with the Director of Case Management, Community Engagement and Response Manager, YWCA Utah case management teams, and community partners to advocate for systemic change, build relationships, and engage in outreach efforts that strengthen YWCA’s commitment to community empowerment, justice, and racial equity.

 

The FJC Lead Case Manager will lead by example, mentoring the case management team and ensuring that clients receive comprehensive support that promotes safety, stability, and long-term empowerment. This role also involves a focus on advocacy, policy reform, and community outreach, contributing to the broader movement to end domestic violence and sexual violence and ensure safety and justice for all survivors.

 

Essential Job functions

  1. Case Manager Support and Supervision
  • Supervise, mentor, and support case managers, providing guidance on best practices, crisis intervention, and survivor-driven services.
  • Co-facilitate FJC team meetings, focusing on staffing to ensure effective case planning and team collaboration.
  • Provide day-to-day support to the case management team to ensure timely and meaningful help is provided to all program participants.
  • Hold weekly 1:1 Supervision meetings with direct reports, attending to staff capacity, performance, and sustainability.
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding case managers in collaboration with the Director of Case Management.

  1. Crisis Counseling and Advocacy
  • Maintain a caseload of program participants, providing crisis counseling, advocacy, and coaching to individuals and families in crisis due to domestic violence and/or sexual violence.
  • Complete intakes for walk-in clients, assess safety, and provide immediate support, resources, and referrals.
  • Screen for survivors at high risk for lethality, providing trauma-informed psychoeducation, safety planning, and connection to resources.
  • Intervene in crises as needed, utilizing de-escalation skills, trauma-informed care, and knowledge of community crisis resources.

 

  1. Case Coordination and Referrals
  • Support case managers in coordinating referrals and connecting survivors with community resources and services.
  • Develop and implement safety and housing plans in collaboration with program participants, case managers, and external agencies. Monitor and track progress.
  • Manage and track referrals from case managers in YWCA Utah’s crisis shelter and transitional housing teams to promote seamless wraparound care.
  • Monitor callbacks for survivors screened with the Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP), ensuring survivors receive timely and trauma-informed outreach.

 

  1. Collaboration and Relationship Building
  • Work closely with the FJC team, internal programs, external partners, and community agencies to ensure coordinated and holistic services for clients.
  • Meet weekly with the Community Engagement and Response Manager to identify potential partnership opportunities, program needs, and more.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Case Management, work to expand housing services and maintain strong working relationships with housing service providers.
  • Advocate for the access and use of community resources for program participants.
  • Facilitate communication with other service providers and agencies, ensuring seamless services are provided.

 

  1. Program Support and Team Development
  • Identify and provide regular training and development opportunities for the case management team, promoting continuous learning and team cohesion.
  • Assist in maintaining staff capacity and ensuring a supportive and collaborative work environment.
  • Collaborate with FJC leadership to identify opportunities to improve service delivery and programming.
  • Participate in special projects and assist with covering FJC phones as needed.

 

  1. Mission and Movement Representation
  • Serve as the Family Justice Center’s representative for YWCA Utah’s mission and movement, actively promoting the organization’s values and initiatives across programs and in the community.
  • Fulfill monthly responsibilities related to mission-driven activities, including attending meetings, contributing to advocacy efforts, and engaging with YWCA Utah campaigns and events.
  • Commit to a year-long engagement, ensuring consistent representation and alignment with YWCA Utah’s goals and objectives.

 

  1. Community Outreach and Tabling Events
  • Work closely with the Community and Engagement Manager to coordinate YWCA Utah’s presence at local events, conferences, raising awareness about domestic and sexual violence, YWCA Utah’s services, and available resources.
  • Train staff on how to represent YWCA Utah at tabling events, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge to engage the community, share educational materials, and connect individuals with resources.
  • Engage the public through outreach at local events, providing information about YWCA Utah services, offering resource guides, and sharing safety planning tools.

  

  1. Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities
  • Ensure case files, documentation, and assessments are complete, accurate, and in compliance with YWCA Utah policies and legal requirements. Assist Director of Case Management with auditing FJC documentation.
  • Monitor data collection in collaboration with the Community Engagement and Response Manager to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • When available, manage FJC economic empowerment grant funds.
  • Track and approve timecards for direct reports.
  • Participate in regular supervision, staff meetings, and trainings.
  • Maintain necessary certifications, including Case Management certification, CPR, First Aid, and other relevant certifications.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work scheduled hours on a regular basis, some weekends and evenings may be required.

  • If driving on business, a valid Utah driver’s license, access to an automobile, and valid auto insurance required.
  • Case Management certification and completion of the Core Advocacy Training (CAT) is required for this position and must be completed within 60 days of hire.
  • Must be able to pass Department of Health and Human Services criminal background check

 

Physical/Sensory Demands

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable office environment.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:  sit for long periods of time; use computer to enter data; use telephone to converse with customers and employees; walk and stand for long periods of time; perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement. Travel to attend conferences, training, outreach and other events occurs routinely. Rarely required to lift up to 30 lbs.
