Job Title: Yoga Instructor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Fitness Manager Department: Health and Wellness
Salary Range: $25-30 per hour
Position Summary
YWCA Tulsa has offered innovative and inclusive services to the community of Tulsa for over 35 years. These services include fitness classes for all ages and abilities. Classes offered include yoga, HIIT, Cycle, barre, group aquatics and Tai Chi. Classes are offered at both the PJW and the East locations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Arrive 15 minutes early and greet each participant.
- Take attendance in every class and actively promote growth in all classes.
- Help maintain cleanliness and order of the studios.
- Assist participants in gathering necessary equipment.
- Clearly introduce self and make any announcements as well as describe the class format to new attendees.
- Create a fun, upbeat and encouraging environment.
- Offer modifications and progressions for attendees. Teach to the description and level of your class.
- Cue verbally and visually.
- Procure subs for classes using the GroupEx Pro app or other approved method.
- Stay current with music, exercises and fitness trends.
- Engage members and promote classes on social media
- Attend all mandatory meetings unless otherwise excused.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills in working with members at all fitness levels.
- Ability to adjust class plans to fit the needs of the class.
- Ability to function well in a gym facility.
- Ability to learn audio and visual equipment in the studios.
- Ability to communicate through GroupMe and GroupEx Pro with supervisors and other instructors.
- Reliable transportation/Driver’s License
Work Location:
This position is in-person and is not eligible for work from home arrangement.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one-year experience as a yoga instructor
- Current certification through a nationally recognized program – Yoga Alliance, YogaFit, ISSA, ASFA, NASM, ACE, etc
- Current CPR certification
Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- The employee will work in a fitness center and in close quarters with other staff and clients.
- Employee must be able to perform additional duties as directed by management.
- The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to high.
- Hearing, as in listening to normal conversations, including one-on-one conversations, discussions in meetings, and/or telephone conversations includes 100% of time in hearing.
- Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); and Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, are required.
- Position requires sitting or standing to a significant degree (sitting less than 1/3 of the time; standing over 2/3 of the time). Use hands to finger, handle or feel over 2/3 of time. Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, may be required over 2/3 of the time.
- Will routinely lift, carry, and otherwise position objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
