Manager of Summer Programming
Position Summary:
The YWCA Manager of Summer Program develops and supervises the implementation of high quality summer youth development programs for children, K-5th grade in accordance with standards set by funding agencies, state and federal professional organizations and regulating agencies. This role is responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operations for the summer programming on-site at the YWCA, including planning, coordination, licensing and supervision of the program to ensure that families receive quality services which provide for growth in academics, social emotional development, and health and wellness for all students. In addition, he/she ensures focus on programming that promotes healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development.
Performance Standards:
- Plan, schedule, and implement structured, high-quality programming that aligns with best practices in summer programming and oversee all programs and activities during summer within and outside of licensed programming. (including field trip and partnership opportunities)
- Translate OEC state regulations into daily practices and program policies
- Hire, train, and evaluate staff in accordance with agency policy, state and federal EEO laws and regulations. Maintain staff ratios in accordance with licensing and quality standards set by funders and state/national professional organizations.
- Lead enrollment, recruitment, and retention of students & families and development of program staff while monitoring attendance, staff hours and staff quality standards
- Maintain all aspects of program in accordance with YWCA policy, professional quality standards set by state/national professional organizations, and funding agencies. Regularly visit all classrooms of operation to ensure provision of quality program.
- Work with Childcare Director and Assistant Director to develop policies and procedures that promote a safe, healthy, age appropriate, and stimulating environment.
- Ensure the use of positive behavior guidance among program staff members and partners
- Maintenance of open, effective communication and interaction among the programs and partners of summer programming
- Coordinate transportation arrangements, collaborative arrangements with partnering agencies in accordance with the budget and to support quality program.
- Supervise the purchase of supplies in accordance with agency budget. Coordinate food program in collaboration with Childcare Director and outside vendors.
- Coordinate programming elements that support program priorities but are engaging and promote high levels of participation.
- Work to schedule opportunities for family engagement.
- Positively promote the YWCA and YWCA programs within the community.
- Develop and maintain reports and statistics (including attendance records) necessary for the Board of Directors, funders, and regulators.
- Collect other data as needed by partners, funders and licensing
- Work with the Connecticut After School Network and partners in collaboration with the Childcare Director to promote staff involvement in professional development opportunities in June and August
- Maintain positive relationships with children, staff, parents, and co-workers.
- Act as substitute in program when required to maintain ratios.
- Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences that will enhance your professional development and benefit the YWCA. Attend those trainings deemed mandatory sponsored by the YWCA, funders, or as indicated by supervisor.
- Abide by the written policies, including the Discipline Policy, for all Childcare and Youth programs.
- Support summer programs and activities in collaboration with Childcare Director
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Leadership, Communication & Family Engagement
- Develop & instill strong, positive program culture among staff, students, families, and larger YWCA community
- Participate in networking meetings with other New Britain summer program providers as relevant
- Institute a system for communicating with parents, staff and personnel on individual student needs and assessments
- Design and distribute communication materials to the families & YWCA community, highlighting the summer programming
- Work closely with Childcare Director to increase family/program and school day connections and better engage families in their children’s program experience
- Attend staff, personnel, and professional development meetings assigned

Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and minimum of 2 years of previous supervisory experience required.
- Master’s degree in early childhood education, education or Certificate in After School Program preferred.
- 3-5 years’ experience in program implementation and direct services to youth in an after school and/or summer program/camp setting.
- Ability to plan, organize, develop, and coordinate all aspects of summer programming to meet program goals and objectives, in accordance with agency/funder policies, procedures etc. Must demonstrate flexibility to accommodate a rapidly changing environment.
- Thorough understanding of skills necessary to relate well to and ability to relate well to youth (K-5th grade), school personnel, and parents; excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, disciplined, self-starter.
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of youth development and quality practice.
- Experience with after school youth programs in a supervisory capacity.
- Ability to creatively and effectively solve problems/resolve conflict.
- Pass police background check.
Qualifications Preferred
- Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead people (youth and adults) and get results.
- Planning: an ability to think ahead and plan over a 6–12-month time span.
- Able to analyze programs and regulatory information to ensure programs meet quality standards.
- Strong team player- works with others (including supervisor and community partners) for the benefit of youth summer setting; develop and appraise staff effectively.
- Computer proficiency including word processing software.
- Willingness to pursue/maintain state driver’s license to drive youth in agency van.
Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
