Position Summary
The YWCA National Capital Area seeks an experienced and highly organized Site Coordinator for the 2026 EmpowerSTEAM Summer Academy. EmpowerSTEAM is a 5-week, in-person Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) program designed to foster belonging, leadership, and exploration for youth ages 8–17.
The Site Coordinator serves as the primary on-site leader responsible for daily operations, program quality, staff support, and participant experience. Working closely with the Manager of Youth Programs, the Site Coordinator ensures smooth implementation of programming for STEAM Explorers (ages 8–13) and STEAM Ambassadors/SYEP participants (ages 14–17), who serve as mentors and role models to younger participants.
This role supports the integration of Positive Youth Development and Social Emotional Learning practices, ensures safe and inclusive program delivery, and oversees the aftercare program. The Site Coordinator plays a critical role in building a nurturing, structured, and engaging learning environment where youth feel valued, connected, and empowered.
EmpowerSTEAM will be held in person from June 29 – July 31, 2026. Training for EmpowerSTEAM staff members will be held from June 22-26, 2026.
Position Responsibilities
- Support the Manager, Youth Programs in overseeing daily site operations, program implementation, and overall program quality.
- Maintain a visible and engaged leadership presence and ensure smooth daily schedules, transitions, and logistics.
- Oversee attendance, materials, site coordination, and support execution of field trips, special events, and culminating activities (e.g., STEAM Carnival).
- Serve as the primary on-site support for facilitators and staff; provide coaching on youth engagement, classroom culture, behavior support, and SEL integration.
- Model professionalism, leadership, and Positive Youth Development practices; support culturally responsive and youth-centered programming.
- Build strong relationships with STEAM Explorers and STEAM Ambassadors and foster a welcoming, inclusive, and emotionally safe environment.
- Support integration of Social Emotional Learning and identity-affirming practices into daily programming; help facilitate community-building and leadership activities.
- Supervise participants during all program components, including field experiences.
- Coordinate and oversee STEAM Ambassadors/SYEP participants, including onboarding, professional readiness, engagement, mentoring support, and timekeeping.
- Oversee daily aftercare operations, support aftercare staff, and ensure a safe, structured, and engaging environment.
- Build positive relationships with families and communicate participant needs, achievements, and concerns as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, documentation, and incident reports, support distribution of materials and incentives.
- Enforce program policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure all youth have a safe and rewarding experience.
- Attend required training and meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Youth Development, Social Work, Counseling, or related field preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in youth development, education, camp, or OST programming.
- Experience coordinating programs, leading teams, or supervising staff preferred.
- Experience supporting Social Emotional Learning and Positive Youth Development is strongly preferred.
- Must be available for the full training week and the entire program duration.
- Must pass required background checks.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Most of the work is performed in a school environment, with occasional field trips/program activities in the Washington Metropolitan area.
This position is classified as light work and requires the ability to speak, hear, see, read and lift objects up to 10 lbs. frequently and up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
