Childcare Program Assistant
Early Childhood (Full-Time) OR Afterschool (Part-Time)
Position Overview
Childcare Program Assistants support the supervision, care, and development of children in either our Early Childhood Education (Infant – Preschool) programs or our School-Age Afterschool programs. Staff work in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment while maintaining full compliance with NYS OCFS regulations and YWCA policies.
Applicants should indicate which position they are applying for: Early Childhood Assistant Teacher (Full-Time) or Afterschool (Part-Time).
Position Options
Option 1: Early Childhood Program Assistant Teacher (Full-Time)
- Works with infants through preschool-aged children
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, approximately 35 hours per week. May require some occasional evening work for special/family events and training.
- Supports classroom routines, learning centers, and social-emotional development
- Assists with meals, personal care, health checks, and classroom maintenance
- Collaborates with the Lead Teacher on lesson planning and child observations
- Maintains required child records and communicates professionally with families
Pay & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $17.10
- No weekends, paid holidays

Option 2: Afterschool Program Activity Leader (Part-Time)
- Works with school-age children in an afterschool setting
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, approximately 17.5 – 18.5 hours per week (2:30pm – 6:00pm). May require some occasional evening work for special/family events and training.
- Facilitates structured activities, lessons, and enrichment programming
- Supervises snack time, attendance, and daily wellness checks
- Supports program setup and breakdown in shared school spaces
- Encourages youth voice, teamwork, and positive behavior
Pay & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $17.16
- Follows school calendar schedule (off when schools are off)

Minimum Qualifications (both positions)
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with children under 13
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
- Ability to meet NYS OCFS training and background clearance requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Valid NYS driver’s license preferred
- Must represent the YWCA brand and mission
