Housekeeper/Custodian

Job Description: The Housekeeping is responsible for the overall cleanliness and housekeeping of the YWCA facilities. This includes but is not limited to the historic buildings, main building, and grounds.

• Supports the YWCA Mission.
• Responsible for presenting a positive image, inside and outside of the YWCA – knowing that they are a representative of the YWCA and will act accordingly- maintaining a favorable image for the YWCA.
• Must respect the confidentiality policy of the YWCA, clients, residents, and the general public.
• Abides by all program policies.
• Work as a “team player” with all other YWCA staff.
• Attend all required meetings.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively in a team oriented environment.
• Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms and other work areas so that health standards are met.
• Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers.
• Empty wastebaskets and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas.
• Sweep, scrub, mop floors, using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbing machines.
• Dust and polish furniture and equipment.
• Keep storage areas clean and tidy.
• Arrive on time daily and accurately record proper hours worked.
• Replenish supplies such as towels, refilling spray bottles, and bathroom items.
• Sort clothing and other articles, load washing machines, and fold dried items.
• Restock clean towels in appropriate areas.
• Wash windows, walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
• Disinfect equipment and supplies
• Clean up and take down birthday parties
• Complete daily duties on provided checklists
• Other duties assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to: Painting, yard clean up, snow removal etc.
• Be able to work a minimum of 4 hours to a maximum of 28 hours per week.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements/Qualifications (education level, CPR certified, valid drivers license, etc.):

• Criminal record check.
• Be available to work nights and weekends as needed.
• Valid Iowa driver’s license.
• Ability to do light to heavy lifting as much as 50 pounds.
• Ability to stretch, bend, walk, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach areas to be cleaned, items to be gotten or stored.
• Ability to handle cleaning equipment.
• Physical ability to perform tasks
• Clear background check.
• High School Diploma required
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to communicate well with diverse groups.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $9.00 - $12.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
