Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm         Remote: NO

Job Summary:

As a Domestic Violence Intervention Advocate at YWCA Central Massachusetts, you will play a vital role in advancing our mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote justice and dignity for all. Working closely with the Manager/Supervisor, you will partner with local Police Departments, community agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to provide compassionate advocacy, crisis intervention, and support to victims and survivors of domestic violence. You will help connect individuals to resources, promote safety through coordinated services, participate in community outreach and education, and contribute to an inclusive environment where every person is treated with dignity, respect, and equity.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual advocacy, crisis intervention, emotional support, and culturally responsive, trauma informed services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, ensuring services are equitable, inclusive, and respectful of each individual's unique identity, background, and lived experience.
  • Provide on site coverage at the Worcester Police Department during specified hours to conduct victim follow up and provide timely advocacy and support.
  • Assist individuals with restraining orders, elder abuse and child abuse petitions, and advocacy following law enforcement response while ensuring services are accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of survivors.
  • Collaborate with Victim Advocates, the District Attorney's Office, law enforcement, and community partners to provide coordinated, survivor centered support that promotes equity and reduces barriers to services.
  • Participate as an active member of the Worcester Domestic Violence High Risk Response Team and collaborate with multidisciplinary partners to improve survivor safety and coordinated community response.
  • Assist clients in developing, implementing, and adapting individualized safety plans that recognize cultural, linguistic, accessibility, and other unique considerations.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete statistical data and reports in accordance with funder requirements, agency standards, and program guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate, confidential, and up to date documentation of all client interactions, services provided, referrals, and case activity.
  • Refer, advocate for, and connect victims with community resources and services that support housing stability, financial empowerment, legal advocacy, health care, mental health services, and other identified needs.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, service providers, and stakeholders to strengthen coordinated services for survivors from diverse communities.
  • Represent the YWCA at community meetings, networking events, outreach activities, and tabling events as assigned to increase awareness of services and strengthen community partnerships.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, trainings, professional development opportunities, and initiatives that promote racial justice, gender equity, cultural humility, and continuous learning.
  • Demonstrate experience working effectively with individuals from diverse racial, cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious, linguistic, and ability backgrounds while fostering an environment of inclusion, dignity, and respect.
  • Support the YWCA's mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote justice and dignity for all through daily practice, decision making, and service delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

 

Qualifications:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Proficient computer skills and excellent organizational abilities.
  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to make community presentations.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in crisis situations.

Education and Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience in domestic violence advocacy, crisis intervention, and victim services.
  • Familiarity with criminal justice processes and an understanding of high-risk cases in domestic violence situations.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and understanding of cultural sensitivities.
  • Experience working with community resources and collaboration with law enforcement agencies is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
