What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Assistant position at YWCA Central Maine?
The Food Service Assistant is responsible for serving high quality meals and snacks under the direction of the Director of Food and Nutrition Services. The Food Service Assistant will fulfill meal plans as created by the Director. The assistant will be trained in the State of Maine’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements and always be aware of CACFP compliance. The Food Service Assistant will maintain mission-based programming during meal service such as encouraging manners, ensuring inclusiveness, and a community atmosphere. The Food Service Assistant is also responsible for filling out proper meals attendances on YWCA’s childcare software system as required by the CACFP. The Food Service Assistant will perform kitchen closing protocols, cleaning, and sanitation. This is a full-time position, 40 hours a week Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:00pm. Part-time is an option—hours would start at 8:00am M-F.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure meals are served safely according to food safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace.
- Follow and enforce all State Laws and inform Food and Nutrition Services Manager of any issues that arise.
- Serve meals in compliance with CACFP
- Ensure health and safety codes and policies are complied with
- Ensure clean water is available.
- Ensure clean water jug with fresh water and cups are available in the gym every day.
- Assist in the set up and break down of meal service including cleaning of dishes and kitchen area.
- Sweep floors, wipe tables, and wipe down chairs. General cleaning and proper sanitizing of kitchen and meal service space
- Food service prep duties
- Throw away opened foods at end of snack service.
- Return unused sealed food to kitchen into proper storage areas.
- Communicate with Food and Nutrition Services Manager about broken equipment
Knowledge and Experience:
- ServSafe Certification or willingness to become certified within 30 days.
- Knowledge of food safety and food service experience
- Reliable transportation with valid driver’s license and willingness to travel on occasion desired
- Ability to work as a contributing member of a professional, effective work team
- Ability to complete required paperwork accurately, factually, concisely
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two or more years of relevant experience in food service preferred
