What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Accountant position at Yurok Economic Development Corporation (YEDC)?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The incumbent under the general direction of the YEDC CFO will coordinate and perform professional and technical responsibilities related to the YEDC financial operations: assist in maintaining control over fiscal information system by monitoring and analyzing financial records, recommending accounting procedures and controls, preparing and interpreting monthly and annual financial reports and assuring that the YEDC and the YEDC component units complying with Tribal, State and Federal policies, procedures and regulations, as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process all accounts payables, accounts receivables and payroll for YEDC and all its businesses.
Accurately and thoroughly maintain financial statements, general ledger and other financial records as required for YEDC and its businesses.
Preparation and payment of payroll tax payments, payroll and sales tax reports, W-2's and 1099's for all businesses.
Effectively use accounting systems to store and retrieve data.
Clearly communicate orally and in writing with all levels of departmental staff and YEDC Board of Directors.
Prepare financial statements and reports for all businesses.
Apply Tribal, Federal, State and Local laws, ordinances and regulations to accounting and auditing work.
Make sound decisions and recommendations consistent with essential functions.
Prepare accounting records for annual audit for all businesses as requested.
Prepare bank reconciliations monthly and compare to general ledger. Investigates and resolve differences.
Provide oversight and training as necessary and as the fiscal department expands on an ongoing basis.
Provides fiscal oversight of YEDC component units, and assist with inventory as directed.
Assist with developing fiscal policies and procedures.
Must maintain confidentiality at all times
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Knowledge of auditing and fiscal management, accounting systems and data processing, financial administration, budgeting and reporting.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public, using tact and discretions, and responding to questions, comments and complaints from staff and citizens in a professional manner.
Ability to compose correspondence and other related materials while effectively employing principles of good correspondence.
Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations with error free accuracy.
Ability to develop computer spreadsheets using complex formulas and a variety of financial and other mathematical functions. Must pass Excel test with acceptable results
Able to work within established guidelines with little direct supervision.
Ability to understand and interpret legal documents and federal, state and local regulations.
Ability to establish, implement and maintain documentation procedures.
Ability to operate ten-key adding machine.
Ability to understand or interrupt various accounting software.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct supervision of accounting clerks on a daily basis relating to accounting procedures and work related issues.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: (objective educational or technical training required; skills; and years of experience):
· Obtain and maintain gaming license from the Tribal Gaming Agency.
· Valid State Driver's License or identification card.
· Bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and/or finance and 4 years of accounting/finance management experience.
· Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
· Strong computer skills in word processing, databases, and spreadsheets (ability to demonstrate proficiency).
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to be able to apply conceptual thinking to understand facilitate solutions to complex problems or issues and be able to utilize constructive conflict to quickly facilitate the integration of diverse thoughts, opinions and perceptions.
· Must be 21 years of age or older.
· Skill to design and evaluate operating policies and procedures that assure operating processes are properly protecting company assets, are compliant with State, Federal, Tribal and Regulatory rules and guidelines.
· Skill in building and developing interdepartmental relationships.
· Skill in reporting, group presentation and other communications skills.
· Ability to impart knowledge and skill, to offer advice and counsel, to empower and enable others to see alternatives, and to foster the professional growth of others.
