JOB TITLE:                 Yupiit School District Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

Certified SALARY:       Based on experience

REPORTS TO:             Superintendent; Assistant Superintendent                 

Contract Length:        182 Days

Qualifications

  • Alaska Type A Teaching Certificate required.
  • Alaska Type B Administrative Certificate preferred.
  • Five or more years of successful teaching experience in tribally-controlled Alaska Native communities, Yupiaq preferred.
  • Experience with curriculum development, instructional practices, and assessment
  • Experience implementing place-based or culturally responsive curricula
  • Experience providing professional development and instructional coaching for educators.
  • Understanding of educational frameworks aligned with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
  • Experience implementing district-approved curriculum programs.

 

 Responsibilities

  • Lead development and implementation of K–12 curricula aligned with Alaska State Standards and culturally responsive practices.
  • Maintain and monitor the district curriculum review cycle and support implementation across schools.
  • Provide classroom coaching and instructional support for teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Assist with selection, acquisition, and implementation of instructional materials and district-approved curriculum programs.
  • Provide professional development for administrators, teachers, and instructional staff.
  • Oversee the district assessment program and assist schools with data collection and analysis.
  • Support management of curriculum-related budgets, grants, and partnerships.
  • Prepare reports and information requested by district leadership, the school board, and state or federal agencies.
  • Serve as a member of the district leadership team.
  • Spend one week each month at each school site (Akiachak, Akiak, Tuluksak) coaching teachers in classrooms, supporting curriculum implementation, and ensuring scope and sequence are followed.
  • Participate in and implement cognitive coaching after completing the training.
  • Perform other duties related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment as assigned. Required Knowledge and Skills • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience supporting adult learning and instructional improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage budgets, committees, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Strong computer, data analysis, and reporting skills. Certification Requirement Must hold a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.

 

Physical Demands

The position requires regular travel between school sites and occasional flights to remote locations. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
