ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides customer service by answering phones and directing calls appropriately, greeting the public, and responding to routine inquiries and service requests.
- Performs routine data entry and/or light typing; maintains records; performs and maintains paper and electronic filing of specified departmental documents; performs other specialized office functions as assigned.
- Assists with first level technical support and assistance to customers; explains issues and offers solutions according to department policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines; follows up with user to assure request is resolved.
- Refers complex requests, incidents, or problems to senior staff to facilitate continued improvement of customer services.
- Runs errands, cleans, and maintains work area.
- Shadows and assists with routine technical work in area of assignment related to operations, equipment maintenance, inventory control, basic inspection work, and/or software and hardware installation, configuration, repair, and upgrades.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in and attending a local High School;
- Be actively enrolled in a Career & Technical Education (CTE) program;
- Be referred by the High School CTE Coordinator;
- Be willing to commit to learning office procedures, technical and/or vocational procedures, processes, equipment, and protocols.
- Positions assigned to the Yuma Police Department must pass a polygraph and background check.

- SICK LEAVE - Employees are eligible to utilize paid sick leave immediately following 90 calendar days from their date of hire. Irregular part-time employees will accrue .0333 hours of sick leave for every hour they work. The annual accrual is maxed at 40 hours of sick leave.
- HOLIDAYS- Part-time irregular or Seasonal employees who work the day of the City recognized holiday will be paid holiday pay for the amount of hours worked that day, up to eight hours. No holiday pay will be earned for days designated as "observed days". The following are City-recognized holidays:

- SMOKE-FREE WORK ENVIRONMENT - The City prohibits smoking in, and within a reasonable distance of, all buildings used by the City for the conduct of City business or buildings or facilities used or occupied as workspace by City employees. This includes City owned and operated vehicles. This policy applies to all City employees, volunteers, citizens, and other persons entering or using City owned or operated facilities and/or vehicles.
