    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Purpose Statement

    The job of Student Behavior Response Specialist is done for the purpose of providing support to school staff by implementing proactive strategies to address disruptive student behavior, promoting positive behavior interventions, de-escalating crisis situations, and helping to foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment. This position works in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and support staff to assist students in developing self-regulation and social-emotional skills that contribute to success in the classroom and school community.

    Essential Functions
    • Implements strategies that promote positive behavior and support students in making positive choices.
    • Provides direct intervention and de-escalation during behavioral incidents, including one-on-one and small group student support.
    • Models appropriate behavioral strategies and interventions for staff, reinforcing consistent expectations across settings.
    • Assists in training or modeling for school staff in areas such as de-escalation techniques, behavior management strategies, and implementation of behavior support plans, under the direction of site leadership or student support teams.
    • Monitors and documents student behavior trends and interventions for the purpose of data collection and team-based decision-making.
    • Assists in implementing school-wide behavioral expectations and supports, including PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).
    • Collaborates with staff to support student behavior plans and individualized supports.
    • Assists with supervision in high-traffic or high-need areas such as playgrounds, hallways, lunch areas, arrival/dismissal, etc.
    • Builds positive, supportive relationships with students to encourage social-emotional growth and behavior improvement.
    • Participates in team meetings to discuss behavioral concerns, strategies, and student progress.
    • Supports communication with families as directed by administration or support teams.
    • Utilizes de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies to manage intense behaviors and ensure student and staff safety.
    • Reinforces and facilitates social-emotional learning strategies that align with district goals.
    • Maintains confidentiality of student records and behavior reports.
    • Attends training and professional development related to behavior support, crisis prevention, and intervention.
    Other Functions
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
    Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
    SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques, supporting student behavior plans, and maintaining accurate documentation.
    KNOWLEDGE is required to understand stages of child development and behavior, classroom and school routines, and behavioral strategies. Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, PBIS, and restorative practices is preferred.
    ABILITY is required to work calmly and effectively under pressure; remain patient and professional in challenging situations; maintain confidentiality; and build positive relationships with students, staff, and families. Flexibility is required to work with a wide range of individuals in varied situations. Problem solving may involve interpreting behavior plans and adapting responses in real time. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and school teams is essential.
    Responsibility
    Responsibilities include: working under direct or limited supervision depending on the situation; providing behavior support across various school environments; and responding to behavior-related crises. There is continual opportunity to significantly impact the school climate and student success.
    Working Environment
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant walking and standing; and the ability to respond quickly in physical or crisis situations. The job is performed under some temperature variations and in environments that may involve exposure to risk of injury or confrontation.
    Experience Job related experience is desired.
    Education High School Diploma or equivalent; 60 college credits preferred
