NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision, performs governmental accounting work involving recording, accounting and reporting of financial transactions of County funds; this position has county wide responsibility.
(Illustrative Only) Reviews, prepares and analyzes accounting transactions; prepares financial reports and statements including footnotes; develops and prepares supporting schedules for audits; reconciles bank statements to general ledger; prepares, adjusts and corrects journal entries to the general ledger; assigns, creates, maintains, inventories and reports all capital assets for the County; develops and modifies complex spreadsheet applications; provides technical accounting support to other departments and divisions within the County; serves as liaison between auditors and County agencies; recommends and develops policies and procedures; performs operational analysis with supervision of the Division Head; prepares, analyzes and maintains routine reports, correspondences, statements and financial records; interprets and monitors, leases and rentals from an accounting perspective; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or closely related field; and one (1) year of professional accounting experience, preferably in a government entity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires successful completion of a background check.
Knowledge of: County policies and procedures; principles, theories, practices and concepts of government accounting, including auditing procedures and accounting analysis procedures, accounts receivables, accounts payable, and payroll; automated accounting systems; Government Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Government Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting (GAAFR); Financial Accounting Standard Board (FASB); Federal and State regulations.
Skill in: Performing and verifying mathematical computations with accuracy; preparing computerized spreadsheets; maintaining and tracking of files and reports.
Ability to: Conduct detailed research and analysis of complex financial data; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; follow written and verbal instructions; meet critical time deadlines; use modern office equipment and computers.
Work Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity; generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing; working at a computer monitor for extended periods required; the job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
