What are the responsibilities and job description for the Respiratory Care Practitioner position at Yuba Pulmonary?
We are looking for a skilled Pulmonary Function Technician to perform full PFTs (spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity, and related testing) in our office setting. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with the PFT equipment and can work independently to deliver accurate, high-quality diagnostic results.
Responsibilities:
- Spirometry (pre/post bronchodilator)
- Lung volumes (plethysmography or gas dilution)
- Diffusion capacity (DLCO)
- Operate and maintain PFT equipment (Pulm-One), including daily calibration and quality control checks
- Greet and escort patients to rooms
- Prepare patients for testing, explain procedures, and ensure comfort and cooperation throughout
- Accurately document test results and ensure proper upload/integration into the patient's chart
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and coordinate with the equipment vendor as needed
- Maintain infection control and safety protocols in the testing area
- Manage the PFT schedule to keep testing on time and minimize patient wait times
- Communicate any abnormal or urgent findings to the supervising physician promptly
- Keep testing supplies stocked and equipment in proper working order
- Perform other job related duties as assigned
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and their families
Qualifications:
- Active California Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required (RRT or CRT through the Respiratory Care Board of California)
- Prior experience performing full PFTs required (spirometry, lung volumes, and DLCO), preferred but not required
- Experience with Pulm-One equipment strongly preferred, but not required
- CPFT (Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist) or RPFT (Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist) certification a plus, in addition to RCP licensure
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to testing accuracy
- Comfortable working with patients who have respiratory conditions, including those who may be short of breath or anxious about testing
- Good communication skills and a patient-centered approach
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage a testing schedule independently
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and EMR use
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
