To learn more about our innovative school visit our websitewww.yumingschool.org.POSITION OVERVIEWEnglish Language Development (ELD) Instructors work under the guidance of School Administrators and the Director of Academics, in close collaboration with English Literacy Teachers, to support the academic growth of English Language Learners (ELLs). ELD Instructors are responsible for delivering targeted English language instruction to small groups of students who are acquiring English as a second or additional language. They play a key role in promoting student achievement by providing high-quality, differentiated instruction that meets the diverse linguistic needs of learners. In addition to classroom instruction, ELD Instructors support students' language development by offering personalized guidance and academic support. They are also responsible for administering the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) and using assessment data to inform instruction and monitor student progress.RESPONSIBILITIESUse Amplify CKLA Language Studio curriculum to teach designated ELD lessons to small groups of students in grades K-2.Administer the Initial and Summative English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) in compliance with state and district guidelines.Collaborate with classroom teachers, English Literacy staff, and school leadership regularly to support the integration of language development across content areas.Develop and implement lesson plans that are culturally responsive, linguistically appropriate, and tailored to students individual proficiency levels.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, ELD portfolios, and language proficiency assessments.Deliver targeted English Language Development (ELD) instruction to small groups of English Language Learners (ELLs), aligned with state standards and language proficiency goals.Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and adjust teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.Support the development of students academic vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.Participate in professional development opportunities focused on English language acquisition, instructional strategies, and cultural competency.Engage in regular communication with families and caregivers to support student progress and encourage language development at home.Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that fosters student confidence and encourages language risk-taking.Support school-wide efforts to promote equity and access for multilingual learners.Other duties as neededQUALIFICATIONSRequiredB.A. or B.S.Native or near native fluency in EnglishExperience working with childrenFlexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic, creative and start-up learning environmentSuperb interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, colleagues and familiesAbility to follow instructions and accept constructive suggestions and professional standardsMaturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a solutions-oriented attitudePreferredExperience or coursework in educationUnderstanding of the English Language Development StandardsSuccessful relevant experience in an urban school settingTIME COMMITMENT180-day school year, 8 student-free professional development days for collaboration with colleagues. Workday hours are between 8:30am and 5pm, Monday-Friday. Expanded Learning Program employment is available during October, Spring, and Summer break.COMPENSATION$20-23 per hour, based on experience.
