Job Description And Duties
Under general direction of the Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer serves as a key technical leader supporting California’s Senate Bill (SB 1) transportation improvement program, which funds critical projects that enhance highways, roads, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure throughout the state. In this role, you will help develop and improve the processes, guidance, standards, and tools that support the successful delivery of SB 1-funded projects, while providing engineering expertise to solve complex transportation challenges. Working closely with Caltrans districts, partner agencies, and stakeholders statewide, you will provide technical guidance, support performance measurement efforts, and help ensure projects are delivered efficiently, consistently, and in accordance with program requirements. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence statewide transportation investments, improve project delivery practices, and advance Caltrans’ commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions
Position located at 1120 N St in Sacramento, Sacramento County.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
