What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Product position at YouVersion?

The Director of Product is primarily responsible for leading a cross-functional product team focused on growing and sustaining generosity through our digital platforms. This role drives the digital generosity product strategy and execution across both Life.Church and YouVersion, develops the team, stewards the vision, and ensures alignment with organizational outcomes. The Director leads product managers, product designers, engineers, and supporting contractors, focusing on creating digital experiences that invite and encourage generosity. This role is responsible for collaborating with their Central Team Leader to cast vision, provide direction, and lead ministry efforts within their area of influence to outcomes that further Life.Church’s mission and reach people for Christ.

The Digital Product Team leverages technology to reach people worldwide, connecting them to our ministry and each other through our website, apps, and all Life.Church locations. Our apps serve our attenders by connecting them with our church and helping facilitate their growth as a fully devoted follower of Christ. It doesn't get much better than that!


What You'll Do
  • Lead the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of digital generosity experiences across Life.Church and YouVersion.
  • Develop product strategies and outcome-driven roadmaps focused ongrowing new givers, retaining existing givers, growing the generosity of existing givers, and growing recurring giving.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Giving Operations, Generosity, Life.Church Communications, YouVersion, and church leadership to ensure product strategies align with generosity goals and mission impact.
  • Directly lead and develop a cross-functional team of product managers, product designers, and engineers.
  • Support product teams in creating cohesive and effective team rituals (planning, retros, standups, delivery).
  • Ensure product discovery and delivery work is grounded in both user needs and technical feasibility.
  • Oversee team structure, scaling, hiring, and contractor/vendor partnerships for generosity initiatives.
  • Provide direct coaching, mentorship, and career development to Digital Generosity product managers, designers, and engineers.
  • Promote a culture focused on speed of delivery, curiosity, stewardship, and ownership across the team.
  • Conduct regular 1~1s, goal planning, and feedback conversations with Digital Generosity product managers, designers, and engineers.
  • Encourage experimentation and a culture of iterative learning.
  • Ensure cross-team coordination, sequencing, and clarity of ownership across the Life.Church and YouVersion teams and products.
  • Lead and refine team operating cadence, including planning cycles, roadmap reviews, and team health practices.
  • Contribute to budgeting, resource planning, and contractor management in partnership with Finance and Digital Product operations.
  • Represent digital generosity initiatives in organizational planning and leadership forums.
  • Drive alignment and visibility through clear storytelling, transparency, and measurable outcomes.
  • Serve as a key voice in sharing progress, learnings, and pivots related to digital generosity across stakeholders.


Skills Needed to Succeed
  • Ability to self-motivate, make independent decisions, and solve problems with innovation.
  • Effective at time management to meet strict deadlines while remaining flexible and open to change.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to clearly explain complicated processes and foster partnerships at all levels of an organization.
  • Effective at project management, including process and organizational management to coordinate, structure, and provide vision to projects.
  • Strong leadership skills and understanding of developing and guiding others across multiple disciplines (especially product, design, and engineering).
  • Ability to translate abstract goals into executable strategies and team focus.
  • Strategic thinker with a heart for the Life.Church mission and the spiritual impact of generosity.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.
  • 7 years of experience in digital product leadership.
  • 2 years of experience in people management, including cross-functional teams (product management, design, engineering).
  • Experience in digital product strategy, discovery, and iterative delivery.
  • Experience driving measurable outcomes in user behavior, particularly within giving or e-commerce contexts.
  • Demonstrated success in growing user engagement or recurring behavior through digital platforms.
  • Experience leading digital experiences related to generosity or e-commerce preferred.
