Job Title: Teacher Assistant
Part-Time Salary with Benefits (33 hours per week), 10 Month, Level 1 (prorated)
Reports To: Director of Instruction (1 Position for Healthcare, 2 Positions for Building Trades, 1 Position for Culinary)

YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter high school, with a singular focus on supporting youth aged 17-20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. During our 1-year alternative program, Youthbuild facilitates a warm, loving culture that uses a variety of structures to build community, such as a restorative-justice approach to discipline, weekly community meetings, and school-wide service projects. Students are empowered to attain their high school diploma and vocational certifications, while receiving unconditional support by the staff around them. The Opportunity:
The Teacher Assistant supports classroom instruction within one of YouthBuild’s workforce development departments, Healthcare, Culinary or Building Trades, by assisting instructors in developing engaging, hands-on learning experiences for young adults ages 17-21. This role provides individualized and small-group skill-building support, helps prepare and maintain classroom materials and equipment, and contributes to a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment.

Requirements
What You’ll Do:
You will…
- Support classroom instruction in one of three workforce development departments (Healthcare, Building Trades, or Culinary) by assisting with hands-on learning activities, projects and skill-building exercises.
- Provide individualized and small-group support to students ages 17-21, reinforcing lessons, clarifying instructions, and encouraging active participation.
- Collaborate closely with the instructor on record to ensure consistent instructional support across two cohorts of students.
- Assist with preparing, organizing, and maintaining classroom materials, tools, and equipment to create a safe, efficient, and engaging learning environment.
- Help maintain a positive and productive classroom environment by modeling professional behavior, addressing disruptions appropriately, and supporting a respective, inclusive environment.
- Monitor student progress during classroom activities, offering constructive feedback and report observations to the classroom instructors.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning sessions with teachers and other program staff.
- Provide mentorship to a cohort of 2-3 students, offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward meeting graduation requirements, as needed .
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the Workforce Instructor(s) or Sr. Director of Workforce Instruction and Deputy School Leader..

Salary Range:
New YouthBuild staff can expect a starting salary of $33,000.
