What are the responsibilities and job description for the Case Manager position at YouthBuild Boston?
YouthBuild Boston — Case Manager Full-Time | On-Site | Boston, MA
YouthBuild Boston (YBB) is a nonprofit that transforms the lives of underserved young adults through hands-on training in construction, design, and green industries — paired with academics, counseling, and life skills coaching. We've launched 1,000 graduates into careers and higher education, and we're looking for a passionate Case Manager to help write the next chapter.
The Role
You'll be a go-to advocate and guide for YBB participants — helping them set goals, break down barriers, and build real futures. From one-on-ones to crisis support to career readiness workshops, you'll be in the thick of it every day.
What You'll Do
- Manage individualized caseload through recruitment, intake, assessment, goal-setting, and ongoing support across education, employment, housing, and personal development
- Ensure every participant has a written, measurable Individual Service Strategy (ISS)
- Help Remove Barriers by connecting students to legal, housing, health, and social-emotional resources coordinating on-site delivery when needed
- Facilitate life skills and career readiness groups; lead engaging orientation and team-building activities
- Collaborate daily with instructors, counselors, and staff to drive attendance, retention, and positive outcomes
- Build and sustain employer and community partnerships to create training and placement opportunities
- Maintain accurate, timely case notes, referral documentation, and student files
What You Bring
- A willingness to learn and grow especially with computer systems and case management software matters more than a polished resume
- Experience in case management, youth development, social work, or direct service with young adults is a plus but the right attitude and drive can go just as far
- Strong communication, active listening, and de-escalation skills you build real trust with young people
- Trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approach
- Organized and detail-oriented, with a hunger to get comfortable with technology and digital recordkeeping
- Team player who thrives in fast-moving, multidisciplinary environments
- No degree required relevant experience and a commitment to the mission are what count
- Bonus: familiarity with workforce development or the building trades
- At YBB, we believe young people — when equipped with the right tools — become leaders. Come help make that happen.
