Facility Custodian - Part Time

Overall Purpose: Why the Job Exists & What You Will Do: 

Join the only agency in St. Joseph County focused on homeless youth, operating an emergency youth shelter open 24/7/365. YSB has been serving youth in our community for over 50 years. YSB is now in a new, state-of-the-art 20,000 square foot building that you’ll help maintain! YSB is looking for an experienced custodian who can perform regularly scheduled cleaning tasks as well as assist with event clean up and tear down, and other custodial/janitorial items as needed. Work in a positive, caring environment where you will be making a difference! 

•  Floor Care: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish various floor types; clean carpets and upholstery as needed.
• Surface Cleaning: Dust furniture, fixtures, windows, mirrors, and countertops; scrub and sanitize kitchens, bathrooms, and high-touch areas.
• Outside walkway maintenance- salting, light shoveling; clear debris and trash on campus grounds as needed
• Commercial kitchen cleaning using SafeServ practices; training will be provided
• Filter maintenance – HVAC and refrigerators
• Waste Management: Empty trash bins and replace liners promptly.
• Restroom & Kitchen Maintenance: Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, showers, appliances, and counters; restock supplies like soap, toilet paper, and paper towels.
• General Tidying: Tidy and organize general areas. 
• Event set-up and tear-down
• Specialized Tasks: May vary – examples include:  deep cleaning, window cleaning, floor waxing, carpet shampooing
• Inventory cleaning supplies so agency can maintain adequate supplies
• Other duties as assigned

Skills and Requirements:

• Physical Ability: Ability to stand for long periods, lift, and bend.
• Reliability & Supervision: Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Attention to Detail: Thoroughness in cleaning and organization.
• Safety & Compliance: Follow health, safety, and usage guidelines for cleaning products.
• Communication: Report supply needs or maintenance issues to supervisors. 
• Cleaning or Janitorial/Custodian Experience Preferred (1 year)
• Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance, and the ability to pass drug screen and comprehensive background checks. 
• Must be at least 21 years of age 

• Hours negotiable, but must be at least 3 days per week
