Qualifications:

  • Bachelor in social work from an accredited program/school of social work, plus 2 years of subsequent experience with children and families, or a bachelor’s degree in a field related to social work and 3 years of experience with children and families.
  • A passing grade on DCFS licensing exam once employed.
  • Computer knowledge including proficient knowledge of Microsoft office (word, excel and access) and keyboarding.
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to the cultural differences of individuals and families in groups outside one's own.
  • Demonstrated commitment to empowering families to solve their own problems and to the value of a nurturing family as the ideal environment for a child.
  • A belief in the capacity of people to grow and change.
  • A demonstrated ability to establish a mutually respectful relationship in which the family is a full partner, empowered to solve their own problems.
  • An understanding that most work will take place in the family home and community.
  • An understanding that work schedules are flexible in order to meet family needs.

Summary: Provides direct service to a caseload of ten to fifteen families. (subject to DCFS contract)


I. Direct Service Duties:

  • Provides individual, parent, and family support services to clients that include education, teaching and modeling of skills in parenting, child care, communication, household management and other needed skills.
  • Monitors assigned cases weekly.
  • Provides linkages to services as required by families on an aggressive basis.
  • Develops, as directed, parts of the family service plan.
  • Provides home management services as required/needed.
  • Provides services as directed/fills-in when peers are not available to serve their caseload.
  • Provides provision of concrete services, advocacy and other networking and supportive activities on behalf of the families.
  • Provide non-traditional and varied activities with and on behalf of families in order to meet the needs of the family.


II. Indirect Services:

  • Actively participates in YSBIV's continuous Quality Improvement program.
  • Completes documentation as required according to program procedure.
  • Develops and maintains on-going relationships and knowledge of services provided by collateral agencies.
  • Maintains confidentiality and safeguards client information as required by agency policy procedure.
  • Participates in staff, case monitoring meetings as directed.
  • Participates in professional development activities including: training, evaluations, conferences.
  • Keeps in daily contact with supervisor.
