SUMMARY:

Youth Progress is seeking a collaborative and trauma-informed Engagement Coach to join our team. The person who accepts this position is responsible for a variety of support tasks occurring on site throughout the day across site based programs for both programs and youth. Coaches set the tone for young people on site, leading by example and guiding young people through collaborative problem solving conversations and enrichment activities that teach life skills, and encourage healthy and safe behaviors and engagement.

I) Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Individualized Engagement & Supervision:

  • Help young people regulate their emotions proactively and identify when and how to provide additional support.
  • Ensure the safety of young people by providing supervision both on site and in the community as required.
  • Utilize Collaborative Problem solving to problem solve 1:1 with youth throughout each day and guide the approach to the work.

Milieu Enrichment & Engagement:

  • Support the development of curriculum and activities for enrichment and BRS for use in daily after school groups, throughout the day for specified programs, and during non-school days/weeks where no school is occurring for youth overall.
  • Maintain and model a calm, positive, and professional presence.
  • Support young people in regulating their emotions proactively and identifying when to provide additional support.
  • Ensure the safety of young people by providing supervision both on site and in the community as required.
  • Engage young people in the program, creating a restorative and safe community environment. Creating and maintaining a calm, supportive and structured culture to site based programs overall.
  • Act as primary group facilitator and/or behavioral support partner for after school BRS groups, and drop in activities as they become available
  • Create daily opportunities during down time for young people to participate in recreational and prosocial activities.

Staff Guidance & Support:

  • Proactively support the team by providing effective input on young people's needs and behaviors through daily pass ons and attendance at staff meetings
  • Offer insights and guidance on young persons dynamics and interactions in the program and within the community, collaborating with the YAs and coordinators to ensure up to date, key pieces of information are dispersed appropriately.
  • Support care coordination as needed to ensure young people's needs are met effectively.
  • Consult with Youth Advocate to report on progress in treatment goals.
  • Provide milieu coverage to ensure continuous supervision of young people while staff members take scheduled breaks, complete documentation, or attend to other responsibilities.

Assessment & Advocacy:

  • Assessing the young people's program activities and environments and conditions; document and report findings to appropriate staff and teams teams.
  • Engage in mentoring activities and assess the young person's progress towards the fulfillment of identified goals and objectives.
  • Engage regularly and professionally with foster parents and guardians to provide pertinent program information and share about their young person’s experience and progress.

Documentation & Evaluation:

  • Complete daily and weekly pass ons for each program, obtaining input from site based teams, and disperse appropriately to youth teams/caregivers etc. in a timely manner
  • Complete high quality required documentation & communication in a timely manner.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Document all appropriate BRS hours for each young person via following any BRS engagement.

Compliance:

  • Complete and monitor daily pass on for each young person in the program
  • Daily pass on must consist of significant interactions with staff, peers, employers, and school personnel as well as special appointments and family/PO meetings. etc.
  • Complete accurate and timely tracking of BRS support plans, BRS notes etc.

External Relationships:

  • Support external relationships with volunteers and community resources and ensure strong and consistent communication ongoing.
  • Maintain any relevant relationships with partner organizations involved in ensuring high quality services to our young people, with professionality.
  • Represent Youth Progress at relevant external meetings, professionally.

Other Duties:

  • Ensures that the milieu is clean and safe and that any equipment is set up and stored properly.
  • Support other program functions as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

II) Position Requirements:

Required:

  • Social work, or social services, or 2 years experience in direct services working with system-involved young people.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong analytical skills and be well organized with a proficiency in supporting work towards goals and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in a team-based work environment.
  • Current driver’s license.

Desired Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred
  • Impeccable integrity, positive and collaborative attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for Youth Progress’ mission and commitment to working jointly and effectively within a team of professionals.
  • Ability to thrive as a team player, and communicate effectively with peers, young people, foster parent, and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment
  • Ability to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities.
  • Experience facilitating groups and services with historically marginalized and/or underserved communities.

III) Physical demands and work environment:

  • Full time: Yes, Hourly
  • On-Call: No
  • Hours: Two Shifts potentially available: 7am-3:30pm/10am-6:30pm, M-F. Some evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Co-workers: The person in this position will report to the Site Based Team Lead. This position works closely with the site based team and across the organization to ensure the organization's success. As an agency, we’re creative, open-minded, and deeply committed to the success of young people in our programs.
  • Day to day: No two days are exactly alike and there is a great opportunity to build upon our current systems and processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the role. The job is office-based and includes occasional travel throughout our community. If you think critically and creatively, and you like having full & varied days, this position could be a great fit.
