Position Summary

The Risk Management Specialist provides customer-focused Risk Management support to the YFC movement. This role guides stakeholders through risk management processes with clear communication, advocacy, and ongoing oversight across case queues and assigned projects from submission through resolution.

The position expands Risk Management team capacity to support strategic growth by providing operational assistance across core risk management functions, absorbing increased workload generated by new initiatives and expanded mission activities, and strengthening depth and redundancy on the team.

This role enhances customer service focus, responsiveness, consistency, and continuity as volume and complexity increase, including support within the tier 3 claims and insurance strategy space.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a customer focused point of contact for internal stakeholders navigating risk management processes, providing clear communication, guidance, advocacy, and oversight across assigned case queues and projects from submission through resolution.
  • Provide operational support across core risk management functions, including claims, insurance, and risk related inquiries, to support continuity and responsiveness as volume and complexity increase.
  • Support Tier 3 claims and insurance activities, including case intake, documentation, tracking, follow-up, and coordination, to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent progression.
  • Coordinate with internal partners and external service providers, including insurance carriers, brokers, adjusters, and third-party administrators, as appropriate, to support effective outcomes, consistency, and organizational advocacy.
  • Assist with workload generated by strategic initiatives, mission growth, and periods of increased demand, and contribute to the continuous improvement of risk management workflows, tools, and communication practices that strengthen depth, redundancy, service quality, visibility, and sustainable coverage across the Risk Management function.
  • Other Risk Management/Legal project work as assigned.
  • Apply a Design Thinking mindset in daily work, integrating innovation and Christ-centered, human-centered problem-solving into planning, collaboration, and execution.

YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

Fundraising Responsibilities

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fundraising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.

Budget Responsibilities

A Budget Manager is responsible for aligning all financial resources to the YFC/USA strategic plan in accordance with the delegation and direction of the Division Head. The Budget Manager is responsible for coding, approval, and financial decision-making for their assigned Division, Department and/or Action Plan budget. When a budget is overfunded or underfunded, the Budget Manager is responsible for course correcting through the MCCR process.

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of risk management principles, including claims and insurance fundamentals.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy; sound judgment in complex or high‑risk situations; and the ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information; a customer‑service mindset with a servant’s heart; and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and partners.

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • Professional experience in risk management, insurance, or related field.
  • Experience handling confidential matters required; experience with insurance claims and coverage preferred.

Physical Requirements

The ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents.

Activities require the ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, occasionally move about inside the office to access files or office equipment, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, handheld devices, copy machine, and computer printer.

No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force may be required. Good manual dexterity is required for the use of computers, mobile devices, and other productivity technologies.

The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer and phone are normal.
