Youth Empowers Service, LLC seeks to fill the following positions

Substitute Teaching Assistant

STARBASE Academy Fort Drum, New York

(Substitute positions available)

The Substitute Teaching Assistant shall organize and manage classroom and assist the Program Instructors; organize, manage and prepare classes in all areas of the STARBASE curriculum for instructors and students; and maintain the classroom order and materials. They shall also be responsible for assisting with the classroom inventories, activity logs, name tags, awards, and graduation certificates. Substitute Teaching Assistants reports to the Director.

Qualifications:

Substitute Teaching Assistants, as a minimum, shall meet the following qualification criteria:

Substitute Non-Certified K - 12 Teachers Aide: High School Diploma or higher with 3 years of experience.

Substitute Teaching Assistants shall possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

a. Knowledge of internet-based tools as well as Microsoft Office products

b. Ability to recognize and support the Program Instructors in teaching practices and classroom management skills and ability to co-teach the STARBASE curriculum with the Program Instructors

c. Ability and willingness for quality communication and effective relationships with military and civilian personnel, district school teachers, students, parents, and volunteers

d. Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification

Classroom Responsibilities (Substitute Teaching Assistant):

a. Prepare materials, classrooms, and activities for daily instruction for each lesson

b. Read and know scripts and ques for lessons to place materials and equipment needed for instruction

c. Clean and store classroom materials and equipment in a organized manner

d. Restock materials for instruction as needed

e. Ensure that electronics are charged daily

f. Identify participating individual students’ needs, and provide appropriate intervention and accommodation to help ensure success in program completion

g. Assist visiting Instructors who participate in STARBASE

h. Support weekly graduations, tours, out of class demonstrations, and trips

Clerical Duties:

a. Complete on-line STARBASE survey

b. Assist in sending survey login information to volunteers, speakers, and tour guides, to complete on-line STARBASE survey

c. Maintain scrapbook of photos, press releases, announcements, and other pertinent materials documenting program progression and success

d. Select and prepare requests for appropriate materials for purchase

e. Verify material shipments, updating material inventories, and putting away supplies

f. Maintain and rotate content of bulletin boards

g. Maintain classroom inventories and consumables to be ordered and notify Management when supplies need to be replenished

h. Help initiate, prepare, and maintain class records, other administrative documentation.

Other Duties:

a. Classroom, small break room and office maintenance and cleaning

b. Assist in office organization and cleanliness

c. Assist in all other duties or activities deemed necessary by STARBASE Management for mission success

The Science and Technology Academies Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Exploration (STARBASE) program is funded by the Department of Defense (DOD). In support of this program, STARBASE academies have been established in eight Air Force, 4 Air Force Reserve, and 35 Air National Guard locations and 2 Army Base locations. STARBASE outreach academies serve local community youth by offering students (primarily 5th grades) an opportunity to participate in a variety of learning experiences designed to increase interest in and knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) by exposing them to the technological environment and positive role models found on military bases and installations.

  • Monday to Friday

Education:

  • Substitute Teaching Assistant - High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Substitute Teaching Assistants: 3 years (Required) (non-certified)
