Transitional Housing Program Coordinator
Location: The Dalles
Hours: Up to 20 hours per week (may be combined with other roles to reach 40 hours per week)
Schedule: Tuesday and Wednesdays required plus some evenings and weekends
Salary: Grade 2; $21.05 - $22.80 per hour, with a $0.50 per hour additional Bilingual Pay Differential
Purpose of the Position: The Transitional Housing Program Coordinator for Youth Empowerment Shelter (Y.E.S.) is responsible for carrying out all programmatic activities for our transitional housing program aimed at offering a safe and supported housing option for youth and young adults ages 17-24 that are at risk of houselessness. This includes outreach and working directly with clients in areas of advocacy and skill building, as well as communicating with community partners, supervising and facilitating structured activities, and ensuring adherence to program policies and procedures. The Program Coordinator serves as an advocate for individual youth and young adults, working to help residents make progress on their goals in order to increase their ability to be independent. The program coordinator also conducts regular activities and documentation to ensure a safe, supportive, and helpful environment is maintained.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
Client Engagement and Services (75%)
- Coordinate the receipt, screening, and response to all referrals and applications for the program
- Build relationships and engage all residents using positive youth development principles
- Serve as a role model; working alongside youth and youth adults to increase their ability for self-management, problem solving, and community engagement
- Establish and maintain service plans for all residents
- Guide and assist residents in working toward their established goals
- Accompany residents to appointments and community-based activities
- Encourage and promote independent living skills
- Plan, schedule, organize, and facilitate program activities such as house meetings, recreational outings, and house inspections
- Assist with referrals and service connection to other agencies and supports in areas like mental health, medical appointments, and educational completion
- Follow agency and program policies
- Monitor program expectations to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for participants
- Celebrate successes, problem solve areas for needed change
- Assist with transition planning for long term and permanent housing as residents exit the program
Collaboration and Follow Up (25%)
- Develop partnerships with other services providers to expand program reach as well as coordinate services for youth
- Complete outreach activities and attend relevant community meetings
- Communicates with program housing partners via monthly progress reports and meetings
- Ensure facilities are kept clean, safe, and operational
- Assist with tasks like yard work and general cleaning, facilitate requests for larger repairs or project
- Collaborate with coworkers, supervisor, and volunteers
- Documentation of house activity and services to youth
- Complete all Y.E.S. specific trainings, certifications, and attend required meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Competency and Skill Requirements:

- Maintain client confidentiality at all times, and follow HIPAA guidelines and regulations
- Ability to travel within the Gorge is required, valid driver’s license and insured vehicle
- Position requires the ability to lift up to 30 lbs, stand, bend, walk, and use stairs on a regular basis.
Required Training, Education, and Experience:
- First Aid/CPR training, food handlers license within 2 weeks of hire
- 4 years of education or equivalent experience in psychology, social work, or related field
- Experience working with diverse individuals and communities
- Bilingual English/Spanish required
