What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Apprentice position at Youth Development, Inc.?
TEACHER APPRENTICE:
Under the direct supervision of the Center Director, responsible for assisting in the Early Head Start classroom and for completing all coursework and tasks required to obtain the infant-toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate.
- Must complete the required Early Childhood Education Early Care, Education, and Family Support Entry Level Course before or within 30 days of employment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Not Inclusive):
- Assist in creating a developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
- Provide experiences for infants and toddlers that are based on evidence based early care and education principles, practices and the Head Start mission.
- Attend and engage in all CDA training activities.
- Complete all CDA requirements including CDA portfolio, CDA observation, CDA exam.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB CHARACTERISTICS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is a professional position, which requires organizational and communication skills, as well as judgment, tact and diplomacy in contacts with Head Start employees, community residents, parents and local government agencies. Strict adherence is required to all regulations concerning confidentiality.
Good general health and ability to lift and carry 55 lbs. are essential.
TB skin test and physical are required at offer to hire. Physical may be required every five years.
Background investigation to include fingerprinting is required.
Frequent travel is required. Proof of valid driver’s license and car insurance is required.
Must be able to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Classroom supervision provided by a teacher and direct supervision provided by a Center Director. CDA coursework and other requirements supervised by CDA Trainer/Supervisor.
