After-School Program Instructor – Natural Hair & Braiding
Youth Braid and Business Academy is looking for instructors in the Richmond, VA area for our after-school natural hair and braiding program that are passionate about mentioning youth. In this position, you will teach natural hair care and braiding techniques to students age 10-17. Our after-school program instructors help youth develop their creativity, build self-confidence, and teach them a skill that can lead to entrepreneurship. This position requires travel to various Richmond, Virginia public school locations and other Richmond area youth organization sites.
You don’t have to be a licensed cosmetologist. If you have basic knowledge of, or a desire to learn about natural hair care and styling techniques, we can teach you the skills you need to succeed. This role is perfect for individuals who are organized, dependable, and enjoy working with young people.
What You’ll Do
- Teach and demonstrate by leading hands-on lessons in braiding, natural hair care, and basic business topics using our proven curriculum.
- Mentor and inspire by encouraging creativity, boosting confidence, and creating a positive learning environment for students.
- Manage the classroom by keeping students engaged, focused, and having fun while maintaining structure.
- Stay organized by preparing class materials in advance and ensure proper cleanup and documentation after each class.
- Be a role model by showing professionalism, dependability, and a positive attitude that inspires students, teammates, and others.
Requirements
- Experience or interest in braiding and natural hair care (teaching experience preferred, but training is provided).
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to keep youth engaged.
- Excellent organization, reliability, and attendance record.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to assigned schools or youth organizations.
- Must a background check ($19.99 fee reimbursed on first paycheck).
- Must adhere to a drug-free policy (including marijuana use).
- Able to set up and clean up materials and submit attendance or class progress reports.

Class Details
Class Duration: 1–3 hours (includes setup and cleanup).
