Position Summary
Youth & Family Services of North Central Oklahoma, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to support the organization's day-to-day billing and accounts receivable functions.
The Billing Specialist is responsible for preparing and submitting claims, reviewing billing and supporting documentation for accuracy, following up on outstanding claims, assisting with denials and billing discrepancies, posting payments, and maintaining accurate billing records. This position works closely with clinical, program, administrative, and finance staff to help ensure accurate and timely reimbursement for services provided.
Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely claims to Medicaid, insurance carriers, and other third-party payers.
- Review billing information, clinical documentation, assessments, treatment plans, and other supporting documentation for completeness and applicable billing requirements.
- Verify client, provider, service, and payer information needed for billing.
- Enter and maintain information within electronic health record, billing, and payer systems.
- Identify claim errors or missing information and make appropriate corrections.
- Communicate documentation deficiencies or billing-related correction needs to appropriate staff.
- Submit corrected claims and assist with routine payer authorization activities.
- Prepare assigned recurring billings or invoices for funding sources, including ODMHSAS, OJA/CBYS, managed care organizations, and other contracted payers.
- Monitor outstanding claims and accounts receivable and follow up with payers.
- Research unpaid, rejected, or denied claims and assist with resolving billing issues.
- Post payments, adjustments, and remittance information.
- Review ERAs, EOBs, and other payment documentation.
- Assist with reconciling billing records and payment information.
- Maintain accurate and organized billing records.
- Verify insurance eligibility and coverage information as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle protected health information in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
- Assist with billing-related reports, audits, site reviews, tracking tools, and other administrative needs.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred:
- Associate degree in business, healthcare administration, medical billing, accounting, or a related field.
- Previous experience in billing, accounts receivable, healthcare administration, or a related administrative position.
- Experience with Medicaid, behavioral health, medical, or insurance billing.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) or billing software.
- Medical billing or coding certification.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position performed primarily in a professional office environment. The position routinely utilizes computers, electronic health record and billing systems, telephones, and standard office equipment.
