What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Safety Manager – Dulles Airport (IAD) position at Youssef Consulting?
This is a 1099 contractor position on a large-scale active construction project at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The project is managed by a Tier 1 national general contractor with a strong and established culture of safety excellence, and every major trade is represented on site.
As a member of the embedded safety team, you will work alongside construction management daily — identifying hazards, enforcing OSHA compliance, coordinating with subcontractors, and protecting the workforce from the ground up.
With a guaranteed 50–60 hour schedule and 1.5x overtime after 40 hours, experienced candidates at the top of the pay range working full OT weeks can expect to earn well over $130,000 annually. This is a rare opportunity to grow your expertise across all trades and build your resume on a high-profile federal airport project.
Responsibilities
·Conduct daily safety inspections across all active trade areas — identify hazards, document findings, and ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and applicable airport authority standards
·Develop, implement, and monitor site-specific risk management procedures to minimize workplace accidents and injuries across a multi-trade environment
·Collaborate with the GC project management team and subcontractors to integrate safety protocols into daily operations, scheduling, and pre-task planning
·Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training sessions for all workers and incoming subcontractor crews
·Maintain accurate records of safety audits, incident reports, near-misses, corrective actions, and compliance documentation using construction management software
·Support occupational health initiatives on site, including ergonomic assessments and wellness programs
·Stay current with evolving OSHA, FAA, and airport authority safety regulations and update site safety plans accordingly
Qualifications
·Minimum 5 years of construction site safety experience with a thorough working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards and compliance management
·OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required; OSHA 500 strongly preferred
·CHST, CSP, or STSC certification preferred — candidates actively pursuing certification will be considered
·Experience on large-scale commercial, aviation, transportation, or federal construction projects a strong plus
·Proficient with construction management software for safety documentation and reporting
·Strong verbal and written communication skills — able to engage field crews, trade foremen, subcontractors, and GC management effectively
·Ability to quickly assess hazards and implement effective mitigation strategies in fast-paced, multi-trade environments
·Sound knowledge of risk management principles and occupational health best practices within construction
