Job Summary
The Teller/Member Services Specialist is responsible for providing confidential, professional and personable financial services to current and potential members.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent the credit union to members in a courteous and professional manner and provides prompt, efficient, and accurate service in the processing of member transactions.
- Identify the financial needs of members, and educate them on CU products and services.
- Open deposit accounts to include savings and checking accounts, share certificates (CDs) and IRAs.
- Appropriately respond to and research member requests, problems, and complaints and provide a resolution as able or escalate the issue to the proper staff member for further assistance.
- Provide guidance, support and training to other Tellers and Senior Tellers as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with operational, security and control, policies/procedures, preventing fraud and protecting member assets.
- Professionally communicate with all appropriate persons in order to provide quality work.
- Actively support the CU’s mission to serve its current and potential membership.
- Respect and advocate the CU’s philosophy to provide confidential financial services to members by maintaining privacy of member account information.
- Assist other Tellers with balancing their teller drawers as needed.
- Properly secure and maintain assigned cash drawers/coin trays in accordance with policy, and be held accountable for same.
- Properly process and administrate share deposits, loan payments, wires, etc.
- Appropriately disburse cash and share withdrawals.
- Verify transactions. Monitor deposit amounts and examine documents for endorsement and negotiability. Detect and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Balance daily transactions and verify check and cash totals.
- Investigate and resolve out-of-balance conditions.
- Efficiently order checks for members’ accounts.
- Perform file maintenance and account changes as needed.
- Process cash orders efficiently.
- Manage ATM issues.
- Provide in person and by telephone, general and specific service-related information concerning credit union services or policies.
- Respond to member's requests, problems or complaints, and/or direct them to the proper person for specific information and assistance.
- Open new accounts and service existing accounts. Set up new account files and provide members with all necessary information for membership.
- Assist members with questions related to online banking, adding and removing accounts and account holders, account transactions and all other account servicing duties.
- Handle requests from members for transfers of shares to loan payments, share withdrawals, check requests, line of credit advances and any other requests received from members.
- Process member mail transactions.
- Mail receipts and checks to members as indicated by policy and procedure.
- Conduct orientation interviews on credit union services and programs with each new credit union member.
- Promote credit union products and services based on member needs that are obtained from member interviews.
- Research and resolve member account problems.
- Assist members with proper completion of documentation as it relates to credit union products and services, direct deposit forms, NADA quotes, CD/MM rates, MAC applications, and other credit union service offerings.
- To perform all other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
- Prior banking and/or money handling experience a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of office machines and software, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Understanding of how to present yourself using friendly, professional and courteous customer service.
- Must be detail oriented keeping mistakes made to a minimum.
- Associates degree in business administration or related field, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Strong sense of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated desire to develop a keen knowledge of the credit union products and services and effectively cross-sell those services to new and existing members.
- Excellent initiative and drive to succeed.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Strong desire to help members with financial needs. Keen ability to promote financial services products.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly motivated working environment.
- Assist with Member Services, account openings and account maintenance when needed.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to compile and compute data and statistics, operate a computer terminal, read extensively and proofread materials.
