Position Summary
- The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) / General Supervisor is responsible for the technical and administrative oversight of laboratory sections. This role involves performing highly complex testing, supervising daily operations, and ensuring the highest standards of clinical accuracy.
- The successful candidate will act as a Technical Consultant to medical staff and lead the laboratory team in regulatory compliance, fiscal management, and quality assurance.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Operations & Clinical Testing
- Comprehensive Testing: Perform a wide variety of waived, moderate, and highly complex manual and automated tests in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Immunology.
- Result Accuracy: Review and ensure the accuracy of patient results prior to reporting, recognizing age-specific differences from newborns to geriatrics.
- Maintenance: Perform and document daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on all laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
Leadership & Supervision
- Section Oversight: Function as the Laboratory Supervisor, managing daily operations, staff competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Technical Consultation: Serve as a Technical Consultant, identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and executing immediate corrective actions.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure strict compliance with CLIA, state-specific regulations (NAC 652), and all other accrediting body requirements.
- Quality Control: Oversee QC policies, documenting all corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
- Proficiency Testing: Manage the testing of proficiency samples to ensure they are handled in the same manner as patient samples, adhering to strict non-collaboration protocols.
- Program Improvement: Lead the section’s quality management program and participate in interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives.
Administrative & Systems Management
- Policy Development: Develop, maintain, and update laboratory policy and procedure manuals to ensure clinical currency.
- Fiscal Management: Responsible for the technical and fiscal health of the office laboratory.
- LIS/POC: Execute assigned responsibilities related to the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Point of Care (POC) testing.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology) biology, chemistry, or health sciences.
- Licensure & Certification: Must possess a valid General Laboratory Supervisor License (or be eligible to work while license is pending).
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience covering all core laboratory disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience in a management or supervisory capacity.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Proven ability to problem-solve independently and exercise expert clinical judgment.
- Flexibility to work 30-40 hours a week.
- Flexibility to work evening shifts and adapt to the evolving needs of the laboratory.

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
