The Deaf Skills Trainer provides Independent Living skills training and peer counseling to Deaf consumers. The role involves conducting intake assessments, developing personalized Independent Living plans, advocating for Deaf services, and offering emergency intervention when needed. The position requires fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience working with the Deaf community. The trainer will also attend workshops, maintain accurate records, and may assist with college interns. Travel within the service area is required – Valid driver’s license and a vehicle are required.
Requirements:
- High School or equivalent (GED) required; Bachelor’s Degree in Health or Human Services, preferred; years of relevant experience may be substituted for Bachelor Degree.
- Fluency in American Sign Language
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required working with deaf services or servicing the deaf community.
- Excel, Microsoft Office and database management
- Working in or involved with the deaf community.
