Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care within our optometry practice. This position involves assisting optometrists with various clinical tasks, ensuring a smooth patient experience from intake to examination. The Ophthalmic Technician will be responsible for performing preliminary tests, documenting medical histories, and maintaining accurate medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient intake, including gathering medical histories and vital signs.
- Perform preliminary diagnostic tests such as visual acuity assessments, tonometry, and retinal imaging.
- Assist in the examination process by preparing patients and ensuring they are comfortable.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures and ensure the cleanliness of the examination area.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems, including CrystalPM.
- Educate patients on proper eye care practices and assist with any questions regarding their treatment plans.
- Manage medical records efficiently, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide assistance at the front desk as needed, including scheduling appointments and handling retail sales of optical products.
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred, particularly within ophthalmology or clinic environments.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic medical coding/billing practices is essential.
- Familiarity with EMR systems, especially CrystalPM, is highly desirable, but not required.
- Experience in retail sales or retail math is a plus, particularly for those involved in optical product sales.
