Innovative School Psychologist at Young & Well

For passionate school psychologists who refuse to choose between career growth and meaningful impact, Young & Well provides a connection-centered environment where your practice transforms your life and the lives around you, your ambition is celebrated, and your work becomes the change you want to see in the world.

Join a Team of Changemakers

Young & Well is seeking an extraordinary School Psychologist to join our innovative pediatric therapy and psychology practice. This isn't just another job: it's an opportunity to revolutionize how psychological services are delivered to children in Washington, DC charter school environments and our outpatient setting. We are recruiting someone who is excited about contributing to a multi-disciplinary approach through developmental evaluations, neuropsychological assessments, and educational evaluations.

What Sets Us Apart

Unlike traditional staffing companies, we're fully integrated into our partner Charter Schools' Special Education programs while maintaining a robust outpatient evaluation practice. As a small, local company, we've eliminated the bureaucracy that prevents great school psychologists from doing great work. There's no red tape that delays student needs, you get direct advocacy and mentorship support from leadership, and immediate access to necessary assessment tools and resources. Your caseloads enable meaningful interventions and match your experience level. Your earning is based on the work-life balance that fits your capacities and personal financial goals. We use a self-reflective model of self-awareness to build your highest capacity as a pediatric psychologist.

The Young & Well Difference

Our practice is founded on a single, powerful evidence-based, counter-culture approach: relationship. Coercive methods aren't allowed in our culture, in favor of building strong relationships with children, and ourselves—an approach grounded in neuroscience and proven to create powerful outcomes all rooted in human connection. You learned everything about assessment and diagnosis in your graduate program or in the field, but at Young & Well, we focus on everything about the you as a school psychologist; being aware of you, so you can be present and most effective for them.

We implement the Responsive Therapy Method, which recognizes that meaningful engagement and emotional affect are critical for forming authentic connections with children that allow for the assessment and intervention they need to flow easily. It means that you would need to be avoidant of any approaches in the psychological field or otherwise that are behaviorally-based and focused, or rely on classical conditioning as a foundation. We focus on ourselves and understanding the child, which includes awareness of trauma, nervous system, and family systems. By prioritizing affect and attunement in our relationships, including in the evaluative process, we create environments where children feel safe, seen, and engaged because they are cared for and their competence is presumed. This relationship-focused approach enables more effective evaluations and lasting developmental progress.

You'll find us where children need us most which means endless opportunities as your career shifts. You could be working in DC charter schools, our outpatient clinic conducting multi-disciplinary evaluations, community environments, or collaborative team settings with OT, SLP, and other professionals.

Your Impact & Growth

This position offers ambitious, exceptional school psychologists the chance to conduct comprehensive developmental, neuropsychological, and educational evaluations. You'll develop innovative assessment protocols that illuminate children's strengths and needs. You'll create meaningful intervention recommendations that schools and families can implement that are based on neuroscience and not behavioral ideologies. You'll establish effective relationships with teachers, school staff, and families. And you'll join leadership conversations about compensation, growth, and learning.

What We're Looking For

You need to be a Licensed School Psychologist (EdS, MA, or PhD/PsyD in School Psychology) or a Clinical Psychologist with experience in child/adolescent assessment and school-based evaluation. You should have experience conducting developmental, neuropsychological, and/or educational evaluations, and hold a DC license, OSSE School Psych Certification, or have the ability to obtain one or both. Technology proficiency with Google Workspace will be evaluated through a technology interview, and the interview is a requirement to pass as part of the employment process. Ideally, you have 3 years of experience in assessment, though we'll consider exceptional early career professionals with near-perfect writing ability. Availability for part-time or full-time work is what we need, with averages of 1-2 private practice cases per month and 6-7 school cases per month for part-time positions, and more for full-time.

Beyond credentials, we're looking for someone seeking longevity and awareness that career growth and development isn't tied to changing jobs and getting titles. If you like to change jobs every two or three years, this wouldn't be the right match. You're a problem-solver with above and beyond organizational skills. You're a self-directed professional who thrives without micromanagement because you know your values. You're a growth-oriented clinician who values collaboration for commitment to lifelong learning. You bring positive energy and genuine passion for psychological assessment and intervention. You have a trauma-sensitive approach with capacity for self-reflection. And you're a creative thinker who can develop innovative assessment approaches and recommendations.

What You Receive

You get a collaborative, non-toxic work environment with like-minded professionals. You'll have opportunities that will change your career so that you are the best possible school psychologist to the children you serve. You'll work with partnerships with schools that respect and value psychological services. We provide professional development support aligned with your psychology passions. There's a $5,000.00 discretionary fund to use toward our benefits based on what your life circumstances need, including three different healthcare plans to choose from, 401K, Life Insurance, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability. We have a creative compensation structure with bonus potential based on your caseload design, plus an excellent base salary.

Join Our Mission

At Young & Well, we believe anything is possible for our staff, our clients, our students, and our network of schools, families, and programs. If you're ready to work in an environment where passion for your career is celebrated, not shamed, we want to hear from you. We believe that loving what you do and being driven to excel professionally because you are committed to growth and learning is something to be proud of. It's how we collectively change the world through meaningful work. At Young & Well, your expertise isn't just valued; it's the catalyst for transformation in this critical work we do every day.
