Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Territory Manager to oversee sales performance, retail execution, and customer relationships within an assigned territory. This role partners with big box retailers to improve merchandising standards, train store teams, and drive consistent execution within the garden center. The ideal candidate will have field sales or retail experience, preferably working with big box retailers in the garden center department, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple store locations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
· Sales Performance Reporting: Monitor and report on sales performance, store conditions, and opportunities to support territory goals and objectives.
· Retail Relationship Management: Build strong relationships with Store Managers, Garden Center Managers, Merchandising Teams, Plant Leads, and District-level partners.
· Training & Development: Train and coach store associates on merchandising best practices, including rack staging, product placement, culling, watering standards, and overall garden center execution.
· Merchandising Execution: Support seasonal resets, product transitions, inventory management, and maintaining company merchandising standards.
· Store Visits: Conduct regular store visits, engage with retail teams, identify opportunities, and provide solutions to improve store performance.
· Store Visit Reporting: Complete daily store visit reports through third-party software and submit updates by the end of the day.
· Territory Management: Manage travel schedules, store priorities, expenses, and territory responsibilities while maintaining consistent communication with the Field Operations Manager.
· Travel Requirements: Travel throughout the assigned territory, averaging approximately 4 stores per day with 2–3 nights of overnight travel per week. This role requires working outdoors in seasonal weather conditions.
Qualifications
· Minimum of 3 years of field sales, retail operations, merchandising, or territory management experience.
· Experience working with big box retailers, preferably within the garden center department or seasonal outdoor categories.
· Strong understanding of retail operations at the store, district, and corporate levels.
· Knowledge of merchandising standards, seasonal resets, and garden center best practices preferred.
· Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work with teams at all levels.
· Ability to train, coach, and influence store teams to improve execution.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and reporting software.
· Clean driving record with no excessive moving violations.
· Bachelor’s degree preferred.
