Through concerts, festivals, and special events, our Shows & Production Department ensures students have professional-level performance opportunities that inspire both the performers and the community.
Position Overview:
Young Musicians Unite is seeking on-call General Stagehands to support our concerts, student showcases, and community events across Miami. This is a freelance, part-time opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the live event industry while helping advance a nonprofit mission. Candidates must be flexible, reliable, and eager to learn the fundamentals of stage and AV production.
Responsibilities:
- Load in/out instruments, staging, backline, and production equipment.
- Set up and strike lighting, sound equipment, risers, props, and musical gear.
- Assist with sound checks, rehearsals, and quick changes during shows.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized stage and backstage environment.
- Work under the direction of the Production Manager and senior staff.
- Collaborate with teammates, supervisors, students, and guest artists.
Requirements:
- Willing to work flexible, on-call hours — NO set weekly schedule. (Event schedules provided generally 2-4 weeks in advance with some last minute opportunities)
- Willing to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
- Willing to work in varying weather conditions (indoor and outdoor events).
- Must be able to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
- Must work cohesively with teammates and supervisors in fast-paced environments.
- Must understand (or be willing to learn) general stagehand and AV industry terms and principles.
- Must arrive on time, ready to work, with a professional attitude.
- Must follow safety procedures and protocols at all times.
- Must be able to take direction from supervisors and adapt quickly to changes during live events.
Optional Qualification (Driver Role):
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness and ability to drive a 20ft box truck for equipment transport.
- Prior truck driving or transport experience preferred.
Job Type: Freelance / Part-Time / On-Call (event-based, mostly evenings & weekends)
Compensation: $25/hr
