What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Coordinator position at YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans, leads, and implements recreational and creative experiences for camp attendees and staff. Provides high quality experiences to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide leadership and guidance for a summer camp group and staff.
- Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Assists children in daily needs, such as washing hands, restroom use, tracking belongings, etc.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, drop-off/pick procedures, supervision, incident reports, accurate head counts, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Two to three years camp or related experience and relevant experience in supervision and administration of camp or youth programs preferred.
- Experience preferred in several of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
- Minimum age of 18.
- CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen completed within 60 days.
- Ability to complete Bloodborne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse Prevention training before start of 1st shift.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 35lbs at a time.
Salary : $15 - $17
