The Center for Support, Success, and Prosperity of the Raritan Bay Area YMCA is the Code Blue Warming Center for the City of Perth Amboy. Emergency Shelter for those without housing will be provided during City and State designated harsh weather conditions. Under the supervision of the Director of Housing and Development, the Code Blue Security and Maintenance Staff is responsible for safety/security of the building as well as ensuring a standard of cleanliness.
The Code Blue Security/Maintenance worker performs any and all security and maintenance duties as well as and those requested by immediate supervisor or other managers at the building.
The individual must be willing to work on a flexible work schedule including weekdays/weeknights, weekends and overnights. On several occasions, must be able to respond to an on-call emergency situation that may occur. They must be capable of responding to supervision requests in a prompt and efficient manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
1. Demonstrates the Y’s values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, honesty and faith.
2. Provide security to the center
3. Assist with bag/belongings and medication checks as needed
4. Make sure secured areas are locked
5. Continuously monitor for safety inside and outside of the building
6. Assist in cleaning of common areas and bathrooms
7. Assures center is kept clean
8. Reports any deficiencies and suggest specific corrective actions to management
9. Adhere to dress code
10. Follow through and complete all duties in a timely accurate manner
11. Complete all the duties listed on the “To Do List”
12. Responsible for other duties, as assigned
BASE HOURS: On declared days 7 PM to 7AM

Requirements
The individual must have an understanding of the Center procedures and be willing to learn the building system and the way it operates. Must have the ability to remain calm and be familiar with the steps to take when reacting to any emergency situation that may arise while on duty. Must be able to relate to an extremely diverse population of people, be flexible, and work as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. The individual must display a professional display a professional and patient personality. Must be dependable for the Center at all times regarding shifts. Must be willing to take part in all trainings the supervisor sees fit including training specific to operation of Code Blue. Must have a general ability to use and maintain some cleaning equipment. The individual must be willing to work on a flexible work schedule including weekdays/weeknights, weekends and overnights. On several occasions, must be able to respond to an on-call emergency situation that may occur. He/she must be capable of responding to supervision requests in a prompt and efficient manner.
A. Experience:
• 3-5 years related security/maintenance experience. Former public safety experience a plus.
B. Education/Certification
• High School diploma or equivalent
C. Skills:
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the general public
• Bilingual a plus
