Specialty Camp Counselor

GENERAL SUMMARY 

Counselors are responsible for supervising children while conducting educational, cultural and recreational activities for children from ages five through fifteen. Daily functions include leading a group of assigned children through a scheduled plan of activities while providing a safe, friendly, and nurturing environment. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character-caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

1. To supervise and interact appropriately with all children in the program according to prescribed YMCA standards.
2. Ensuring the care, safety, and wellbeing of all children in the group.
3. To plan, implement and participate in all scheduled activities including, but not limited to sports, games, crafts, etc.
4. To complete all required documentation for the program including incident reports, documentation, and parent notifications.
5. Coordinate the exchange of campers between programs and communicate appropriately with staff.
6. Responsible for changes within the specialty camp and filling programming time accordingly. 
7. Match specialty camp excellence in all interactions and activities. 
8. Preventing incidents of child abuse, identifying incidents of abuse, and responding properly when they occur by reporting to a supervisor and providing documentation.
9. Participating in weekly staff meetings and ongoing training as necessary.
10. Providing REMARKABLE customer service to participants, co-workers, supervisors, parents and all other community members. 
11. Completing all housekeeping tasks as assigned, promoting the image of the YMCA.
12. Assist in the annual campaign for the YMCA.
13. Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, parents and children.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Employees and volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization. An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1. CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment
2. Ability to multi-task, take proactive actions, improvise and react quickly.
3. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School education and or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
