Description: Swim instructors and lifeguards are responsible for teaching swimming lessons to all ages. This includes instructing students and monitoring the pool and surrounding area for safety. Lifeguards are responsible for lifeguarding during swim classes, pool parties, and public swim times.
- All applicants for this position will be hired as swim instructors first. When a swim instructor completes lifeguard certification, they will be considered a lifeguard.
- Swim instructors and lifeguards implement YMCA practices that ensure the safety and quality of all swimming lessons.
- Swim instructors and lifeguards must be able to make quick decisions and be assertive in enforcing pool rules and regulations. They are able to maintain a level of physical and mental readiness and communicate verbally to large and small groups of members effectively.
- Worksite: Anaheim High School, Canyon High School, Cypress College, Kennedy High School, Pearson Park
- Hours: Part time, non-exempt
- Hours may vary between Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm and Saturday to Sunday from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
- Time frame: Seasonal during summer months from March to November (subject to change)
- Wage: $16.90-$18.00 per hour, depending on experience and certifications

Qualifications:
Qualifications: Swim instructors and lifeguards must be at least 15 and a half years of age and have a valid work permit if they are under the age of 18.
- Qualified applicants have a recommended 1 year of experience teaching swimming or lifeguarding. They have the ability to maintain a level of physical and mental readiness and must demonstrate water safety skills in accordance with YMCA standards at all times.
- All potential employees must submit to and comply with all requirements for employment including, but not limited to, a criminal background check, drug and alcohol testing, health screening, and tuberculosis test.
- Certifications: All swim instructors may obtain a YMCA Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification. Lifeguards will need a lifeguarding certification with CPR/AED training. Lifeguard certification classes are available at the Anaheim Family YMCA.
- Employees must be CPR/first aid certified within the first 30 days of employment and kept current for condition of continued employment. The Anaheim Family YMCA periodically provides CPR/first aid training to staff who need certification.
