KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions
- Provide skill-based swim and water safety instruction within established standards to people of all ages and abilities. Promotes and supports the potential of all students in the program.
- Demonstrate proper stroke techniques and skills. Recognize improper technique and work to positively and constructively instruct participant to improve their skills.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
- Enforce pool safety standards and facility operational rules while maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Records class attendance and completes documentation of participant progress for each swim class.
- Knows, reviews, practices, follows, and makes recommendations to improve safety procedures and practices at Wenatchee Valley YMCA to enhance the learning experience of participants.
- Remains alert and responds to emergency situations.
- Deliver superior customer service to diverse groups of people of all ages from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
- Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications are required within 30 days of hire date.
- Completion of in house YMCA of the USA Swim Lessons training, YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
- Must be able to think in the abstract, solve problems, make quick decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, and recognize the potential for danger or injury.
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- At least 16 years of age.

- Ability to remain alert and focused under conditions of high heat and humidity.
- Ability to physically perform program activities and respond to emergency situations.
- Frequently standing, squatting, or treading water.
- Frequently supporting swimmers floatation and/or direction within the water and occasionally catching swimmers as they jump in from the side of the pool.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Swim Instructors are responsible for the delivery of quality Aquatics programs, including appropriate swimming instruction for individuals and groups, to YMCA members and community members at the Wenatchee Valley YMCA in accordance with established YMCA policies and procedures.
