The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is looking for Summer Staff for our resident camp at Camp Shady Brook. Do you have a passion for working with children? Do you love the outdoors? Camp Shady Brook, a branch of the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, is a residential camp located about 70 minutes northwest of Colorado Springs.
Camp Shady Brook is looking for Cabin Leads who will enthusiastically represent the YMCA by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy, and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job through the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The Cabin Leads will serve as part of a two-person team in a cabin responsible for the health, safety welfare, and fun of youth campers ranging in ages from 6 to 17. These individuals will provide supervision, direction, unending enthusiasm, and positive reinforcement to the campers and participants. It is of paramount importance to be a patient, child-oriented, and positive role model, ensuring a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. In addition to program duties, each cabin leader will receive training and teach in many of the camp program areas. Prior camp or childcare experience is a requirement for this position. Cabin Leads may assist during the summer as maintenance /housekeeping /kitchen /office staff. All summer positions will be from May 28th - August 4th with room and board.
CABIN LEADER REQUIREMENTS:
- 18 years of age before the start of the summer season
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience with youth or family programming preferred.
- Must possess a cooperative spirit and be committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to campers, staff, and program participants.
- Must have a sincere and genuine interest in working with youth, and should relate well to all age levels and backgrounds of people.
- Facilitate community living with youth in a cabin or tent platform.
- Ability to plan, initiate and lead small and large group activities
CABIN LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate an engaging group living experience in an outdoor environment for campers while helping each camper meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.
- Provide camper supervision within established policies, procedures, and risk management guidelines.
- Actively plan to teach campers in areas of recreation, environmental studies, and social skills.
- Responsible for monitoring camper eating habits, health, relationships, and hygiene
- Responsible for developing lesson plans for each week’s discovery units, cabin activities, social hour, ,ember discussions, and any other activity period assigned.
- Alert maintenance personnel of repairs needed to equipment or facility to maintain proper working/operating conditions.
- Prepare for and actively participate in staff training and staff meetings.
- Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties.
- Evaluate current season and make suggestions for future season.
- Play an active role in all camp activities.
- Will work stay over weekends as assigned.
- Will perform housekeeping/office/kitchen/maintenance tasks.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
- These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required.

SALARY RANGE:
$420/week plus Room & Board
