What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Aquatics Director position at YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF THE CHESAPEAKE INC?
Under the direction of the Group Executive Director, the Regional Aquatics Director is
responsible for the development, implementation, supervision, administration, and evaluation of
the Aquatics Department at the Cecil County Family YMCA and Kent County Family YMCA which
includes 2 indoor pools and outdoor pool.
This position oversees staff supervision, program development, aquatic operations, and facility
management. The Regional Aquatics Director ensures that every aquatic experience is safe,
welcoming, fun, and mission-driven for members and program participants.
Key Deliverables Include:
● Maintaining the highest standards of safety and risk management
● Delivering high-quality drowning prevention and swim lesson programming
● Ensuring strong member engagement and satisfaction
Essential Functions
1. Implement new engagement activities, incentive programs, and special events.
2. Ensure high-quality swim instruction, aquatic programs, and overall member satisfaction.
3. Market aquatics programs to increase participation and grow department revenue.
4. Teach aquatic exercise classes, swim lessons, or lifeguard as needed.
5. Ensure pool facilities and equipment are safe, clean, and operating properly.
6. Maintain compliance with YMCA, state, and local regulations.
7. Serve as a key team leader, including budget development and meeting organizational
goals.
8. Supervise and develop staff in accordance with YMCA policies and applicable laws,
including interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and conflict
resolution.
9. Respond promptly and professionally to member and participant concerns using active
listening and problem-solving skills.
10. Maintain accurate participant records and required documentation. Compile program
statistics and evaluate participation and effectiveness.
11. Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, members, participants, and families
while providing motivational support and guidance.
12. Coordinate scheduling and use of aquatic facilities for programs and special events.
13. Uphold and model the YMCA’s core values in all interactions.
14. Participate in and support financial development efforts, including the Annual Giving
Campaign.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
1. College or technical degree preferred. Competitive swimming experience is a plus.
2. Previous aquatic supervision and experience required; must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
3. Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications required prior to hire.
4. Lifeguarding Instructor and CPR/First Aid Instructor certifications required.
5. YMCA Swim Instructor certification required.
6. CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification preferred; must be completed prior to hire.
Salary : $65,000 - $70,000
