Swim Instructor (Part-Time)
YMCA of Sumter
The YMCA of Sumter is seeking a dependable, energetic Swim Instructor to join our Aquatics team. This position plays a vital role in teaching water safety, building swim skills, and creating a positive, inclusive experience for all participants while supporting the YMCA mission to strengthen community.
Schedule
- Tuesdays: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Saturdays: 4:15 PM – 7:30 PM
What You’ll Do
- Teach swim lessons in accordance with YMCA aquatic standards and curriculum
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times
- Create a welcoming, supportive, and engaging learning environment
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and YMCA staff
- Enforce YMCA policies, procedures, and aquatic safety rules consistently
- Set up and break down lesson equipment
- Respond appropriately to emergencies following YMCA procedures
What We’re Looking For
- YMCA Swim Instructor certification or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe
- Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience teaching swim lessons or working with children preferred
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain in the water for extended periods
- Ability to lift, move, and set up aquatic equipment
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
